From the Valley Voice, August 24, 1996, page V2: CORRECTION Central Valley High School’s Bear Camp, orientation for the sophomores, will run Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Valley Voice apologizes for any inconvenience stemming from the incorrect information that ran in the last two editions.

From the Valley Voice, August 22, 1996, page V11: CORRECTION Sophomore orientation for Central Valley High School will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Last week’s Valley Voice listed the wrong date for the event.

If it’s August, it must be time for parents and students to take care of school sign-ups and shots.

Here’s a wrapup of registration information in schools around the Spokane Valley:

Kindergarteners or first-graders who haven’t had all their shots can go to one of several immunization clinics offered by the Spokane County Health District. The clinics are every Monday at the Valley Center, 11922 E. First. Immunizations are given from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fees are on a sliding scale. Also, an immunization clinic will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the new Tidyman’s, 2024 N. Argonne.

Immunizations also can be received daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Health District’s main clinic, 1101 W. College downtown.

Required shots include four doses of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, with the last dose given on or after the fourth birthday; three doses of polio vaccine, with the last dose given on or after the fourth birthday; and one dose each of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.

New students in the Central Valley School District may register at their neighborhood school starting Tuesday.

CV high school students who want to rearrange their schedules or finish building their schedules should do so between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the following days: seniors on Aug. 27; juniors on Aug. 28; and sophomores on Aug. 29. That’s also the day sophomore orientation will be held.

West Valley High School will hold its registration on Aug. 27. The senior class will register from 7:45-9:45 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. Juniors will register from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., and sophomores from 1-3 p.m.

This is the only chance for West Valley students to register for the classes of their choice. A parent, guardian, or friend also can register for a student.

New high school students will register on Tuesday and Thursday; call the high school, 922-5488, for an appointment. Ninth-graders will have schedules mailed to them.

Other schools in the district will open Tuesday; new students may register then.

At East Valley High School, registration for new students will take place Monday from 1-3 p.m., Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1-2 p.m., and Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1-2 p.m.

Course registration for all high school students is on Wednesday as follows: 8-10 a.m., seniors; 10 a.m.-12 p.m., juniors; 1-3 p.m., sophomores. Any students who owe fines, fees or detention time will have their courses assigned on a space-available basis. Freshman orientation will be held 8 a.m.-noon, on Aug. 29.

New students at other EV schools may register starting Thursday.
