Seattle School Custodians Get Less Time To Clean Rooms
Classrooms will be cleaned every third day instead of every other day, and custodians will be given less time to handle unexpected problems under cuts announced by city school officials.
A $1.2 million budget reduction has resulted in layoffs of 26 part-time janitors and apprentices, and 25 others must work fewer hours or take lesser positions, school systems facilities director Dan Graczyk said Monday.
The cuts are among $9.6 million adopted earlier by the school board to balance the $321 million budget in the school year that begins Sept. 5.
