Uaw To Announce Negotiations Target
The United Auto Workers union plans to end months of speculation today when it announces which Big Three automaker it will target in negotiations for a new national contract.
The UAW picks the company with which it expects to reach the most favorable deal, then uses that contract as the pattern for contracts with the other two.
Negotiations for about 385,000 autoworkers got under way with General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Corp. in June. The current three-year contracts expire Sept. 14.
