Antoinette ‘Toni’ Gardner Yakima

Service for Antoinette L. “Toni” Gardner, 38, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greater Faith Baptist Church in Yakima. Burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park in Yakima. Shaw and Sons Funeral Chapel in Yakima is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Gardner, a former Spokane resident, was stabbed to death at her home in Yakima on Tuesday.

She was born in Spokane and graduated from Ferris High School.

After graduation she worked for Kaiser Aluminum for about 16 years.

In 1990, she moved to Yakima, where she was employed by the Yakima County Substance Abuse Coalition as a community organizer.

She was active in the battle against crime and drugs and for the past five years was an organizer of Yakima County’s annual National Night Out Against Crime and Drugs.

Her mother, Sarah Gardner, an East Central Neighborhood Activist, was stabbed to death in her Spokane beauty parlor nine years ago.

Ms. Gardner was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Spokane, Greater Faith Baptist Church of Yakima, Yakima Black Women’s Coalition and the Yakima Chapter of the NAACP. She had served on the board of directors of Ki-Yak, the Yakima Valley Opportunities Industrialization Center and Mabton Youth in Action.

She is survived by two daughters, Malisea “Lisa” Gardner and Sarah Langford, both of Yakima; her father, Levi Gardner of Yakima; and a brother, Anthony Gardner of Seattle.

Jimmy Stancil Spokane

Visitation for Jimmy R. Stancil, 60, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Stancil died Wednesday.

He was born in Atlanta.

He came to Spokane while serving in the Air Force. He served for 20 years and was involved with fire protection and air/sea rescue in the Air Force. He retired as a technical sergeant.

He was a 40-year Spokane resident and received two associate degrees from Spokane Community College - in business and business administration. He later worked with the housekeeping department at Sacred Heart Medical Center as a floor care technician for 14 years. He retired in 1994.

He was past president and board member of the Inland Empire Bass Club and was a retired member of the Spokane Bowling Association and the American Bowling Congress.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Lou Stancil; a son, Roger Stancil of Richland; two daughters, Lynda Ann Stancil-Beatty and Diane Louise Stancil-Egger, both of Spokane; and 10 grandchildren.

Diana Kelsey Spokane

Graveside service for Diana L. Kelsey, 47, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Mrs. Kelsey died Sunday. She was born in Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and worked as a waitress. She graduated from Rogers High School.

She is survived by a daughter, Jolene Naranjo of Bellevue, Wash.; her mother, Delores Cantrell of Spokane; her father, Wesley Kelsey of Spokane; three brothers, Harland, Craig and Wesley Kelsey Jr., all of Spokane; two sisters, Louetta Kelsey and Pamela, both of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Robert Geschke Ritzville, Wash.

Visitation for Robert L. “Bob” Geschke, 72, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Center in Ritzville. Burial will be at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Geschke died Wednesday. He was born in Packard, Wash., and he graduated from Ritzville High School.

He owned Geshke Wrecker and Repair Shop in Ritzville from 1953 to 1969. He was a wheat farmer from 1960 until 1980, when he retired. He also drove a school bus part time. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

He had a private pilot’s license and operated the Ritzville airport for several years. He was a member of the Ritzville City Council from 1958 to 1966. He served as mayor pro tem from 1964 to 1966. He was a member of the Ritzville reserve police and had briefly served as a full-time police officer.

He is survived by a daughter, Terry Jirava, and a son, Robert Geschke, both of Ritzville; a sister, Dorothy Maier of Ritzville; his former wife, Joan Geschke of Ritzville; three grandchildren, three stepgrandsons and a great-granddaughter.

Donald Rush Spokane

Memorial service for Donald E. Rush, 74, is set for 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mr. Rush, a 45-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

He was born in State College, Pa.

He served in the Air Force for 10 years and was a B-17 pilot.

He retired from the Postal Service after 13 years.

He was the founder of the Four Mounds Flying Club and was a member of the 398th Air Force Association Bomb Group and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen Rush; two sons, Terry Rush of Cherryhill, N.J., and Don Rush of Spokane; two daughters, Karen Fitzpatrick of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Barbara Johnson of Spokane; two sisters, Marion MacCarty and Aileen Rush, both of Norristown, Pa.; a brother, Robert Rush of Pahrump, Nev.; and 12 grandchildren.

Helen Stading Spokane

Service for Helen Irene (Debolt) Stading, 53, is set for 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Stading, who was born in Yakima, died Tuesday.

She was a homemaker and volunteered for many years with the Salvation Army in youth and religious activities.

Mrs. Stading is survived by her husband of 33 years, Lloyd Stading; three sons, Lloyd Stading Jr. of Auburn, Wash., and William and Edward Stading, both of Spokane; a brother, Richard Richmond of Walnut Creek, Wash.; and two sisters, Donna Kinzel of Rusk, Texas, and Margaret Higday of Chewelah, Wash.

Linda Helton Spokane

Memorial service for Linda J. Helton, 48, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.

Born in Spirit Lake, Idaho, Mrs. Helton died Saturday.

She graduated from Rogers High School and was a homemaker. She had lived in Spokane most of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Helton; two sons, Duane Rhoads of Spokane and Timothy Rhoads; two daughters, Gina Hull of Spokane and Charlsee Walker of Trail, British Columbia; her mother, Lucy Tisdahl of Rathdrum, Idaho; two brothers, Paul Reinhardt of Spokane, and Bob Reinhardt of Post Falls; three sisters, Judy Lingle of Rathdrum, Renee Patterson of Germany and Marion Gentry of Coeur d’Alene; her companion, Dell Sells of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Irene Gibson Opportunity

Memorial service for Irene F. Gibson, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Opportunity Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment will precede the service. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gibson died Tuesday at Sullivan Park Care Center.

She was born in Chester, Mont.

In 1933 she married Cecil Patterson in Washburn, N.D.

In 1951 she and her children moved to Havre, Mont., where she worked as a bookkeeper for 10 years.

She moved to Opportunity in 1961, and in 1962 she married James Gibson in Lewiston.

She was a member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church and had served as a deacon. She was also a member of Opportunity Garden Club.

Her husband, James, died in 1986.

She is survived by a son, Don Patterson of Sagle, Idaho; three daughters, Bonnie Turner of Lompoc, Calif., Patti Adams of Los Gatos, Calif., and Margo Patterson of Opportunity; four brothers, Glen Fahlgren of Billings, Mont., Ervin and Warner Fahlgren, both of Portland, and Carl Fahlgren of Malta, Mont.; eight grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Elsie Lanphere Spokane

Service for Elsie A. Lanphere, 94, was Thursday at Sunset Masoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Lanphere died last Friday in Seattle, where she had lived since 1989.

She was born in Deep Creek, Wash.

She was a longtime Spokane resident, and was a schoolteacher in Airway Heights.

Mrs. Lamphere was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Wilbur, Wash., and Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Spokane.

Her husband, Dale Lanphere, died in 1984.

She is survived by two sons, Loren Lanphere of Australia and Marvin Lanphere of California; a daughter, Marilyn Dickey of Mill Creek, Wash.; a sister, Gussie Elmore of Spokane; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Daniel King Spokane

Family gathering for Daniel Paul King, 25, will be held Saturday. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. King died Saturday in a singlecar accident in Mount Spokane State Park.

He was born in Spokane and attended East Valley High School.

He had lived in Anchorage and Miami but returned to Spokane two years ago.

Mr. King was employed by RPM Engine Installation and had enrolled at Spokane Community College in the automotive machinist program.

He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Faye Boswell King of Spokane; two brothers, Steve of Spokane and Ken of Sagle, Idaho; a sister, Mary of Colfax, Wash.; and his grandparents, Robert and Sarah Granlund of Moscow.

Lewis Wheeler Colbert

Service for Lewis Edward “Lew” Wheeler, 69, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Born in Bayview, Idaho, Mr. Wheeler died Tuesday at home.

He joined the Army in 1945 and won a Golden Gloves boxing award. He served in Korea with the 13th Engineer Battalion and was discharged in 1950.

He returned to Spokane and worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood for more than 33 years.

While working at Kaiser, he also owned the Lariet Tavern in Mead.

After he retired from Kaiser, he went to work for the East Valley School District for 12 years as a school bus driver.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; two sons, Christopher Wheeler of Rapid City, S.D., and Robert Cole Jr. of Spokane; three daughters, Victoria Goldberg and Marta Shollenberger, both of Spokane, and Theresa Bogin of Sunrise, Fla.; a sister, Violet Hodgson of Lynnwood, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

James Eversole Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for James C. Eversole, 61, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel.

Mr. Eversole, who was born in Red Star, Ark., died Monday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Spokane.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He worked as a miner in the Silver Valley for 20 years until health problems forced his retirement.

Mr. Eversole married Darlene Brenner on Valentine’s Day in 1992. They moved to Ponderay, Idaho.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Mr. Eversole loved to hunt and make home videos. He was an avid fisherman and caught a record Mackinaw trout on Lake Pend Oreille in April 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene, at home; three sons, Donald Eversole of Yakima, Sam Eversole of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Mike Eversole of Clark Fork, Idaho; a daughter, Teri Miner of Pinehurst; two stepchildren, Carol Burdett of Osburn, Idaho, and Wayne Brenner, Kellogg; six sisters, Gayle Edwards of Kingston, Ark., Billy Jean Evers of Moxee, Wash., Ruth Nellsch of Ponderay, Id., Wanda Golding of Yakima, Linda Klutts of Harrison, Ark., and Diana O’Leary of Parker, Wash.,; three brothers, Edward Eversole of Prosser, Wash., LeRoy Eversole of Georgetown, Ky., and Jack Eversole of Yakima.

Joanna Mueller Coeur d’Alene

Service for Joanna B. Mueller, 73, will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Christ The King Lutheran Church, Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mueller died Tuesday in Spokane. She was born in Glendale, Calif.

She graduated from North Hollywood High School and attended the University of Southern California.

Mrs. Mueller worked for Shell Oil Co. in Los Angles.

In 1943 she married William T. Mueller, and they moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1946.

She taught Sunday school for 20 years and was a leader in Cub Scouts, Camp Fire and 4-H. She was on the board of the Coeur d’Alene Library and was a member of Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution, Mothers Club, Coeur d’Alene Women’s Club, Job’s Daughters, Civic Music, Spokane Club and Central School Parent-Teachers Association.

Mrs. Mueller loved music and was named 1996 Sweet Adeline of the year.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, William, at home; three sons, Marc T. Mueller of Woodinville, Wash., Timothy A. Mueller of Spokane and Jonathan Mueller of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Joanna Schmitz of Spokane; one sister, Edith Ames of Colton, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Kenneth Moore Sr. Colbert, Wash.

Memorial service for Kenneth Warren Moore Sr., 81, is set for 1 p.m. today at Fourth Memorial Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moore, who was born in Minneapolis, died Monday.

He received a scholarship to the University of Minnesota from the Minneapolis Star in recognition for having the second-largest newspaper route in the city. He was unable to accept the scholarship, due to his father’s poor health, and instead went to work for Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co. as an office boy.

He later became a sales manager for the company and a sales representative, with the Dakotas as his first territory. He was then promoted to manager of the Spokane district.

During the World War II he became a collateral purchasing agent at Farragut Naval Training Station and later became a military priority rating specialist for the War Production Board, allocating materials for the Hanford project.

He also served in the Army, working on the Manhattan Project.

He worked for Bigelow Carpets as Spokane district manager until 1941 and later owned the Ken Moore Co., a carpet and furniture store, which he operated until 1966.

In 1970 Mr. Moore opened Ken Moore Inc., a retail and wholesale carpet outlet and a carpet-cleaning operation. He owned the store until 1975.

He was a member of Fourth Memorial Church and served as a lay speaker, adult Sunday school teacher, choir member, trustee and elder. He was also a member of the Spokane El Katif Shrine and Masonic Temple, the Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Moore; four sons, Ken Moore Jr. of Aurora, Colo., Gene and Tim Moore, both of Spokane, and Terry Moore of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Diane Moore Critchlow of Deer Park, and Mary Barker of Goldendale, Wash.; a sister, Margaret Connors of Denver; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Marcella Russell Spokane

Service for Marcella J. Russell, 79, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Bellfield, N.D., Mrs. Russell died Wednesday.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 60 years and was involved in home care for the elderly with Russell’s Home Care.

Mrs. Russell was a member of Spokane Central Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edward Russell; two sons, Loney Russell, at home, and Randy Russell of Spokane; a brother Gordon Indegard of Medford, Ore.; and three grandchildren.

Louise Granlund Spokane

Memorial service for Louise Granlund, 70, is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Granlund, a longtime Spokane resident, died Tuesday. She was born in Cedar City, Utah.

Mrs. Granlund retired in 1991 from the city of Spokane as an executive secretary.

Her husband, Wilburn Granlund, died in 1963.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Granlund of Santa Clarita, Calif.; a daughter, Molly Sullivan of Spokane; and two grandsons.

Ruth Sands Spirit Lake, Idaho

At her request, no service will be held for Ruth Eileen Sands. Cremains burial will be at Wallace City Cemetery. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sands, 83, who was born in Oaks, N.D., died Tuesday.

In 1937, she married Richard Sands in Spokane. In 1947 they moved to Burke, Idaho, and in 1953 to Wallace, where he died in 1966.

In 1974 she moved back to Spokane and lived there until 1978 when she moved to Deer Park. In 1991, she moved to her home in Spirit Lake.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing pinochle.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Sands of Blanchard, Idaho, and Richard Sands of Slidell, La.; a brother, Lawrence Perkins of Eugene, Ore.; a sister, Gladys Barclay of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
