Combat just for the fun: The battles aren’t for real at the Camlann Medieval Faire in Carnation, Wash. The faire includes armored knights in combat as well as pageantry, trumpet fanfares, craft demonstrations such as leatherworking, blacksmithing and jewelry making, and, of course, food.

The fare is appropriately medieval and includes a ploughman’s lunch. For a map to the faire and a brochure about activities, call (206) 788-1353. The Camlann Medieval Faire runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Up on the mountain: Sun Mountain Lodge in the Methow Valley just got bigger and better. The tony resort, widely known as the best place to cross-country ski year in and year out, has opened a new building with 24 guest rooms.
