Journalists Boycott To Protest Beatings
Palestinian journalists called for a one-day boycott of coverage of Yasser Arafat’s government after one of the leader’s personal security guards reportedly beat two reporters on Saturday.
The Palestinian Journalists Association said Maj. Jazar el-Joul, a commander in Arafat’s security unit, roughed up a Reuters Television camera crew when they arrived to cover a weekly Cabinet meeting.
An official in Arafat’s office, speaking on condition of anonymity, said el-Joul had been arrested and that police were investigating.
