Rollover Kills Bonners Ferry Man

From Staff Reports

An 18-year-old Bonners Ferry man was killed early Saturday when the car he was riding in rolled over in a Coeur d’Alene neighborhood, according to the Idaho State Police.

Alcohol was involved in the accident that killed Robert E. Shelman of Bonners Ferry, the ISP reported.

The driver, 22-year-old Jason D. Myers, was arrested on a charge of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. He was treated for minor injuries at Kootenai Medical Center and released.

Police administered a blood alcohol test for Myers, but results were not available Saturday. Myers is also from Bonners Ferry.

Myers was driving east on Marie Street at 1:50 a.m. Saturday when his pickup left the street on the right-hand side and struck the curb near Julia Street, the ISP reported.

Shelman was partially ejected as the pickup rolled onto its side, and was pinned underneath. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither Myers nor Shelman were wearing seat belts, according to police.
