Obituaries

Joy Marchant Moscow, Idaho

Service for Joy B. Marchant, 88, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, Moscow 3rd Ward. Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery.

Mr. Marchant, who was born in Idaho Falls, died Sunday.

He worked as a sheepherder in southern Idaho before moving to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in the late 1930s.

He worked as a logger and farmer before moving in 1960 to Moscow, where he worked for Scott’s Greenhouse and later as a custodian for the LDS Institute at the University of Idaho.

Mr. Marchant was a member of the Mormon Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 1963.

Survivors include three sons, David of Coeur d’Alene, Lynn of Lewiston and Maurice of Nampa, Idaho; five daughters, Rose Gentry and Phyllis Slater, both of Spokane, Ann Platt of Caldwell, Idaho, Verna Belden of Bonners Ferry and Leola Rush of Pocatello, Idaho; 36 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Laurence Halverson Spokane

Service for Laurence I. “Larry” Halverson, 64, is set for 1 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Halverson died Saturday.

He was born in Minot, N.D., and moved to Spokane 60 years ago.

He worked at Kaiser Aluminum in Mead, from 1952 until he retired in 1983. After his retirement, he drove a school bus for the Mead School District.

Mr. Halverson served in the Washington National Guard from 1948 to 1955. He was a 30-year member of Spokane Eagles Lodge 2.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Halverson; a son, Larry Halverson of Spokane; two daughters, Peggy Scrattish of Spokane and Jody Taylor of Kirkland, Wash.; two brothers, Dale Halverson of Colbert and Dick Halverson of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Joan Brandt of Spokane and Rose Marie Graham of West York, Ill.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Richard Wright Spokane

Service for Richard Lee Wright, 58, will be at 2 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Wright, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

He graduated from Rogers High School and then served in the Navy from 1957 to 1959.

In 1964 he married Janice Heimbigner in Spokane.

He worked for Commercial Creamery for 35 years. Mr. Wright was a member of Eagles Lodge 2, Teamsters Union Local 582 and the Spokane Softball Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Brad Wright of Spokane; a daughter, Connie Wright of Spokane; his mother, Phyllis Wright of Spokane; a brother, Wayne Wright of Spokane; and a sister, Carol Gronholz of Colfax, Wash.

Ernestine Dahmen Uniontown, Wash.

Visitation for Ernestine A. Dahmen, 74, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown.

Mrs. Dahman, a lifetime Uniontown, resident, died Saturday.

She was born south of Uniontown on a farm and graduated from St. Boniface High School.

She received a teaching certificate from Lewis-Clark Normal School and taught in Lenore, Wash., until World War II. She then went to work at the Potlatch mill in Lewiston.

In 1945 she married Daniel Dahmen in Uniontown.

She worked as a librarian, a school bus driver and as director of the St. Boniface choir.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Walter Dahman of Pullman, Patrick Dahmen of Uniontown and Lawrence Dahman of Gresham, Ore.; a sister, Eilene Holmberg of Spokane; two brothers, Thomas and David Faerber, both of Uniontown; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Honsberger Newport, Wash.

Memorial potluck will be held for Anna Marie “Mary” Honsberger, 85, at noon today at the Newport Hospitality House. Private inurnment will be at Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Honsberger, who died Thursday, was born in Seattle and graduated from Roosevelt High School there.

In 1938 she married Ernest Honsberger in Everett. He died in 1973.

She was a longtime Newport resident, and was a member of the Newport Quilters and the Newport Hospitality House.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Bushee of Newman Lake and Janet Barker of Mount Vernon, Wash.; two half-sisters, Ellen Womer and Hilda Gray, both of Edmonds, Wash.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Ethel Brannan Gump Spokane

Vigil service for Ethel Mae Brannan Gump, 82, is planned for 8 p.m. today at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gump, who was born in Ottawa, Kan., died Sunday.

She married Robert Brannan of Spokane. He died in 1982 after 29 years of marriage.

She married Judge Ellsworth Gump in 1988.

Mrs. Gump had lived in Spokane for 40 years and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She was a volunteer at Sacred Heart Medical Center and was the Sunshine Lady for Cascade Mobile Home Park.

She is survived by her husband; a son, William Brannan of Spokane; two daughters, Carol Mutzel of Bellevue, Wash., and Leslie Brannan of Portland; four brothers, Harold, Bob, Fred and Ray; and three sisters, Mary, Anna Jo and Dorothy.

May ‘Jean’ Judd Nine Mile Falls

Memorial service for May “Jean” Judd, 70, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Born in Samish Island, Wash., Mrs. Judd died Monday.

She was a homemaker and a 45-year resident of Nine Mile Falls.

She was a member of the Nine Mile Falls Community Club and the Nine Mile Falls Ladies Club.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Fred Judd; a daughter, Carolyn Hartman of the Spokane Valley; two brothers, Vernon and John Hopley, both of Samish Island; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Lawrence Bline Spokane

Service for Lawrence E. “Larry” Bline, 45, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bline, who died Friday, was a lifetime Spokane resident. He worked for a recycling company and was a member of the Evergreen Club.

He is survived his wife, Lina Lea; a brother, Bernard Bline Jr. of Spokane; and a sister, Katherine White of Newman Lake.

Edward ‘Rich’ Lindstrom Spokane

Memorial service for Edward R. “Rich” Lindstrom, 86, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mr. Lindstrom, a 50-year Spokane resident, died Sunday.

Born in Billings, Mont., he moved to Everett and worked for Weyerhaeuser Pulp Co. until 1942, when he entered the Navy. He served in the Navy until 1945.

He moved to Spokane in 1945 and had worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Mead as a crane operator.

He is survived by a sister, Anne Dickey of Spokane.

Amy Carter Spokane

Visitation for Amy L. Carter, 78, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Carter, who died Saturday, was born in Hempstead, Texas.

She was a 50-year Spokane resident and had worked at The Crescent department store for 20 years. She was the founder of East Central Daycare Center.

Her husband, Junius Carter, died in 1982.

She is survived by her mother, Sallie Kemp of Texas; and two sisters, Mercedes Thompson and JoAnna Tompkins, both of Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel A.M.E. Church Missionary Society.

Sarah Anderst Spokane

Graveside service was held Monday for Sarah Margaret (Waggoner) Anderst, 92, at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anderst who was born in Bentonville, Ark., died last Wednesday.

She moved to Rupert, Idaho, in 1935 after marrying Elzie Waggoner and later moved to a farm in Cocolalla, Idaho. Mr. Waggoner died in 1949.

She married John P. Anderst in 1963 and lived in Filer, Idaho. She moved to Spokane in 1973 after Mr. Anderst died.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Spokane Valley.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie P. McCool of Spokane; four sons, Dale A. Waggoner of Soap Lake, Wash., Louis E. Waggoner and John L. Waggoner, both of Newport, Wash., and Carl B. Waggoner of Kennewick; 23 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
