Holy Cross Dedicating New Building

Nina Culver Correspondent

Holy Cross Lutheran Church will be dedicating its new building next Sunday.

The 4,000-square foot building at 7307 N. Nevada will house the expanded Sunshine Preschool, meeting rooms, and classrooms. Dedication ceremonies are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 8.

The addition was built almost entirely by volunteers, who broke ground in April. The work cost a little more than $200,000, but probably would have cost nearly $320,000 if the church had hired contractors, Rev. Robert Luinstra said. The church also kept costs down by limiting frills. “It’s a pretty basic building,” says Luinstra.

The church plans to put the building to good use by starting up new classes on the same day. “We’re pretty excited about our fall, with our new addition,” Luinstra says.

A new course on parenting will be held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., starting Sept. 8.

The LifeLight Bible study class for adults will start at the same week. Participants will be studying the minor prophets. The classes will be held every Monday at 7 p.m., Tuesdays at 10 a.m., and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Child care is provided. All classes are open to the community.

For more information on class availability, call Holy Cross at 483-4218.

Euclid Baptist hosts singers

The Euclid Avenue Baptist Church is having several events on Sept. 8. Christian singers Doug and Candy Geintz will be performing at the 10:30 a.m. service. A potluck lunch will follow the service at noon. Both events are free and everyone is welcome.

The Sunday night youth program will be holding its first meeting Sept. 8 from 6 to 8. The program, open to youths in junior high and high school, will be held every week. The meetings will include skits and role playing. No registration is required and the meetings are open to any youth who wishes to attend.

All events will take place at the church, 2804 E. Euclid.

Sunday school program starts

Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall, will be kicking off its Sunday school program Sept. 8.

All Sunday school classes will hold an assembly at 9:45 a.m. Children do not need to register in advance to take part in Sunday School, and the classes are free.

After an 11 a.m. worship service there will be a potluck lunch. The lunch is free and open to the community.

The church requests that people bring either a main dish and a salad or a main dish and a dessert. Beverages and rolls will be provided. People will also need to bring their own silverware, as only plates will be provided.
