Drivers Warned To Obey School Zone Speed Limits

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane police are warning drivers to pay attention to speed limits in any marked school zone or be fined twice the previous rate.

Penalties for speeding in school and playground zones have doubled with the passage this year of an amended state law.

For example, the fines are $132 for driving 10 miles above the posted limit, and $190 for 15 miles above the limit.

The law specifies these protected zones extend 300 feet in both directions from the marked crosswalks.
