Christmas Fund 1996 Let’s Reduce Stress This Holiday Season And Meet Goal Early
Marc and Bobbi Anderson, 10110 N. Comanche Drive, gave a $100 gift to The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund and created a laugh to boot.
In a note signed with a happy face, Bobbi Anderson wrote: “As much as I love the ‘drama’ of the last-minute reaching your goal, I thought this year has been stressful enough! Merry Christmas.”
She’s right. We don’t need any more stress. Besides, we never did like begging or whining, as one woman scolded me for doing last year.
The response in the drive’s first days has been uplifting, both in the volume of mail received and the total of gifts donated. Let’s cross our fingers that the trend continues, and contributors don’t wait until the last minute, making us resort to groveling because the fund may not meet its goal.
Lucille Hinch, 7306 N. Standard, gave $75, writing, “I’m sure that your set goal will be reached in a timely manner. The generosity of area residents can’t be beat!!” There was also a $75 donation from the fund’s faithful anonymous newspaper employee.
Giving $50 were Bob and Connie Golden, Ione, who “thank God every day for our many blessings, and this is one way we have of sharing our blessings with others”; Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Rayman, 2821 W. Queen; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Zentz, 5224 N. Hawthorne; Clyde and Mae Telecky, Ritzville, who wrote: “We are thankful our power hasn’t gone down, and feel sorry for those in Spokane who are doing without. I hope this will help.”
Other $50 gifts came from Frances Hayden, 12442 E. Desmet; Mr. and Mrs. K.R. Trease, 5906 W. Chippewa Court; Ray and Frances O’Keefe, 700 W. Seventh; Tommie Ruth Nelson, a South Carolina resident visiting friends at 1631 E. Pine Crest Road, who stated, “God bless you, Spokane.” She wrote of the “proof of brotherhood” found during the ice storm through the love, respect and kindness she encountered.
Ed and Pauline Carlson, 322 E. Cozza Drive, gave $50 with thanks to Washington Water Power Co. linemen, KXLY-AM “and all the people who pulled together to help one another” through the ice storm. “Spokane has a big heart; let’s not forget the less fortunate at Christmas.”
Elizabeth Rolph 1927 E. 23rd, gave $50, as did Lois Richards, 5910 N. Summit Lane; Allan Morrison, 4127 S. Latawah; and Bruce and Ruedene Chandler, Newport, who wrote, “Again, it is that blessed time of the year when we can share and bring joy to the children. Thank you, volunteers, for giving of yourselves to bring happiness during the holiday season.” There were also four anonymous gifts of $50.

Those contributing $25 were Lucille Gallion, 2304 N. Upriver Court; Mark and Kay Kalous, Medical Lake, with apt wishes for Warm Holidays; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Robson, 8314 E. Marietta, “in gratitude for all the blessings we have received.”
