Police Looking For 2 Seen With Victim

Police are looking for two people seen with a man shortly before he was hit by a car in north Spokane on Sunday.

David J. Bassford, 22, was injured about 10:30 p.m. when he jumped from a pickup truck and was run over near the intersection of Nevada and Courtland.

The driver of the car stopped and waited with Bassford until help arrived, police said.

Bassford apparently had jumped into the truck near Empire and Nevada and demanded to be driven to Bridgeport Avenue, police said.

Witnesses saw Bassford, who was listed in critical condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center on Thursday, with two men at the 7-Eleven at Empire and Nevada about 10 p.m., police said.

Police would like to talk to those men about Bassford and what he was doing before the accident.

Anyone who knows the men is asked to call the police traffic unit at 625-4127.
