Russian Skater Leads

Ilia Kulik of Russia took the lead in the men’s event after the short program of the NHK Trophy figure skating, with former world champion Elvis Stojko of Canada in second. American Scott Davis was third.

In the women’s event, American Tonia Kwiatkowski led with a short program featuring a flawless combination of jumps, spins and spirals that gave her the edge over Russian Maria Butyrskaya.
