Pair Arrested After Beatings, Robberies

From Staff Reports

Two teenagers were arrested early Saturday for allegedly beating and robbing two people of sports clothing in separate Hillyard incidents.

Ricky Dixon Briggs, 19, and Christopher R. Duxburg, 18, were booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery. Briggs, who police said had marijuana and a pipe with him when he was arrested, also was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

One of the victims required treatment at an area hospital emergency room.

Briggs and Duxburg are accused of jumping two teenage boys near Pittsburgh Street and North Avenue about 1 a.m. The boys told police they were walking home after baby-sitting when two men pulled up in a car, hit one of them in the face with an unknown object, robbed them and drove away.

About an hour later, Briggs and Duxburg beat and robbed a man walking near Perry Street and North, police said.

In both cases, the victims gave similar descriptions of their attackers: a white male, late teens, and a possibly Hispanic male between 18 and 21. The victims also said the men were driving a blue Chrysler-type car.

A car matching that description skidded through a yard and crashed into a fire hydrant at Perry and Rich Avenue a few minutes after the second robbery. Briggs and Duxburg, who matched the description of the robbery suspects, were pushing a blue Plymouth out of the yard when police arrived.

One was wearing a sweatshirt similar to one stolen during a robbery and one ran from officers, police said.
