Sandpoint Legion Tabs Coach

Tracy Turrell, who served as interim head coach of the Coeur d’Alene American Legion baseball team last summer, has been named head coach at Sandpoint.

Turrell, a Coeur d’Alene High grad, filled in for half a season last summer when head coach Paul Mather resigned amid allegations of sexually abusing middle school students.

Turrell was one of four finalists for the Coeur d’Alene job, which is expected to be filled this week. But he withdrew his name from consideration after being offered the Sandpoint job last week.

He replaces David Noonan, who resigned after leading Sandpoint to the state tournament last summer. Noonan cited conflicts with his job for stepping down after one season.

“He has experience and youth,” Ron Hagadone, Sandpoint’s business manager, said of Turrell. “He has the desire to take the program to the next level.”
