Eagles Might Keep It Going

J. Freedom Du Lac Sacramento Bee

Hell may have frozen over, but the Eagles may not be ready to cool off.

In 1994, after 14 acrimonious years apart, the perennially popular country-rock band reunited for a tour that kicked off with a much-ballyhooed MTV special. The semi-unplugged MTV concert begat an album, “Hell Freezes Over.”

Two years later, the 6 million-selling “Hell Freezes Over” is still among the nation’s 200 biggest sellers, clocking in at No. 156 on last week’s Billboard Top 200.

And now, it appears as though there may be another Eagles recording on the way.

“Nothing is confirmed, but there’s definitely talk in the air about doing some work together next year,” says the band’s Sacramento-born bassist, Timothy B. Schmidt. “We’re doing a benefit show right after Christmas, and then I guess we’ll get down to what the plans are after that.

“There are no solid plans, but nobody has said this thing is over. And unless something really strange happens, I don’t think it’s going to be over.
