James Saunders Blanchard, Idaho

Memorial service for James Allen Saunders, 79, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sherman Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.

Mr. Saunders, a Blanchard area dairy farmer for 50 years, died Monday.

He was born in Foss, Okla., and moved to the Sandpoint area in 1918.

He married Marguerite Reinhart in 1937.

He was a member of the Spokane Holstein Association, Farmers Home Administration, the Idaho Dairy Products Commission and the Idaho State Brand Board.

Mr. Saunders is survived by two sons, Gary Saunders of Colbert and Steven Saunders of Spokane; a daughter, Maryanne Saunders of Star, Idaho; a foster son, Mick Brown; a sister, Katherine; two brothers, Guerney and Lyle; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Melvin Nordby Everett

Service for Melvin Nordby, 91, will be at 1 p.m. today at Solie Funeral Home Chapel in Everett. Burial will follow at the Machias Cemetery in Snohomish, Wash.

Mr. Nordby, a former Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He was born in Adams, N.D.

He worked in construction on dams and defense projects throughout the United States. He settled in Spokane and was a builder and developer. He operated Mel Nordby Construction.

He moved to Everett three years ago.

His wife, Geneva (Moe) Nordby, preceded him in death.

Mr. Nordby’s survivors include a son, Jim Nordby of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Patricia Crosby of Seattle and Mary Lou Cannon of Snohomish; a sister, Leona Boe of Adams; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to a Hospice organization or the American Diabetes Association.

Morrie Nimmer Spokane

Graveside service for Morrie G. Nimmer, 88, is planned for 10:45 a.m. today at Mount Nebo Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nimmer, who was born in St. Louis, died Monday.

He moved to Los Angeles as a young man and then lived in Seattle, where he managed the Paramount Theater.

He also managed the Liberty and Rialto Theaters in Wenatchee and the Orpheum Theater in Spokane.

He opened the “Y” Drive-in in Spokane in 1952 and operated it for more than 30 years. He also owned the Auto View Drive-in for 10 years.

He served in the Navy and was stationed in San Diego.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Brotherhood of Odd Fellows, the Variety Club and other entertainment organizations.

Mr. Nimmer is survived by a son, Dick Nimmer of Seattle; two daughters, Sue Shaw and Cyndi Cutler, both of Spokane; a sister, Viola Cohen of Beverly Hills, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Rudolph Kraut Spokane

Funeral Mass for Rudolph Leo “Rudy” Kraut, 83, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kraut, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

He worked as a switchman for the Great Northern Railway and also worked for the Forestry Department. He had also worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Brotherhood of Friends, the Moose Lodge and Sons of Norway. He belonged to several senior centers and was active with the Project Joy Minstrels.

Mr. Kraut is survived by two daughters, Judy of South Carolina and Kathy of Bremerton; three sons, James, Fred and Steve, all of Bremerton; two sisters, Marie Standerfer and Kathryn “Kay” Goeden, both of Spokane; three brothers, Frank, Ed and Ben Kraut, all of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and his special friend and partner, Erma Coffield of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Moose Lodge on Lidgerwood.

Frances Nelson Spokane

Service for Frances M. Nelson, 88, will be at 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Nelson died Saturday.

She was born in Chicago and moved to Spokane in 1978.

She had worked as a telephone operator in Illinois.

She was a member of First Covenant Church and the Women’s Auxiliary to Union Gospel Mission. Her husband, Ellsworth Nelson, died in 1987.

She is survived by a brother, Leif Jensen of Troutdale, Ore.

Wanda Campbell Spokane

Memorial service for Wanda V. Campbell, 74, is set for 1 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Campbell, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She graduated from North Central High School and worked for a checkprinting company.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert Campbell; a son, Ricky Campbell of Medical Lake; a daughter, Vicki Talbot of Spokane; two brothers, John and Tony Ostin, both of Spokane; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Erick Forsberg Spokane

Service for Erick F. Forsberg, 27, will be at noon today at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be Friday at Mountain View Cemetery in Big Timber, Mont. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Forsberg, who died Dec. 1 in a single-car accident, was born in Canoga Park, Calif.

He had lived in Spokane for the past eight years and worked as an electronics technician for Abacus Office Supplies.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Ann Forsberg; his parents, Floyd and Sharon Forsberg of Big Timber, Mont.; a sister, Kimberly Forsberg of Spokane; and his grandparents, Robert and Barbara Linse of Big Timber.

Violet Fredrickson Spokane

Service for Violet A. Fredrickson, 85, will be at 2 p.m. today at Pines Mausoleum. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fredrickson, a homemaker, died Saturday.

She was born in Castor, Alberta.

She moved to Great Falls, Mont., when she was 12. She married Olai Fredrickson in Great Falls in 1928. He died in 1974.

She moved to Spokane from Long Beach, Calif., in 1978.

Survivors include four sons, Wayne Fredrickson of Lemon Springs, N.C., Norman Fredrickson of Liberty Lake, and Ivan and Lewis Fredrickson, both of Spokane; a daughter, Sharon Liston-Acree of Long Beach; a brother, Richard Smith of Great Falls; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Marie Elizabeth Snead Spokane

Visitation for Marie Elizabeth Snead, 82, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery.

Mrs. Snead, who died Saturday, was born in Colfax.

Her parents homesteaded in the Shawnee area, later called Guy and Albion, Wash., in the early 1900s.

She worked at The Cub at Washington State University and moved to Spokane in 1977.

She was a member of Albion-Guy Historical Society.

Her husband, Jack, died in 1976.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Jean Nelson of Spokane; five grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Jose Rodriguez Spokane

No service will be held for Jose Lara Rodriguez, 90. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rodriguez, a 27-year Spokane resident, died Dec. 5.

He was born in Mexico. He was a retired miner.

He is survived by his wife, BillaDean Rodriguez; a son, Jose Rodriguez of Spokane; four daughters, Dale Gendro of Sandpoint, Rose Marie Frisch of Oregon, Josie Rodriguez of California and Cherry Amber Rodriguez of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Phillip Brown Spokane

Vigil service for Phillip J. Brown, 50, is set for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Colfax, Wash. Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Brown, who died Saturday, was a lifetime Spokane resident and was a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Brown; four sons, Nicholas, Jeffrey, Michael and Kevin Brown, and a daughter, Samantha Brown, all of Spokane; his mother, Agnes Brown of Spokane; three brothers, Randall, Joseph Jr. and Gregory Brown, and four sisters, Paulette Fordan, Katherine Otoski, Jennifer Concie and Victoria Otoski, all of Spokane.

Francis ‘Ted’ Miller Spokane

Vigil service for Francis J. “Ted” Miller, 74, is set for 5 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Miller, a 46-year Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He was born in Spokane and attended Gonzaga Preparatory School.

He served in the Coast Guard during World War II and worked for American International Group for 30 years.

Mr. Miller was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Parish and the Parish Council, the Blue Goose International and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Colleen Miller; and a son, Matthew Miller of Spokane.
