Ged Test Sites Open After Probe

From Staff Reports

Spokane County residents planning to take high school equivalency tests no longer have to leave the county.

Ten local GED test sites reopened this week, a month after being shut down while administrators investigated a case of cheating.

Testing officials worried an essay question had been distributed after an inmate at Pine Lodge Pre-Release Center stole it Nov. 12. Later, they found out it was destroyed after two inmates cheated.

The essay question has since been eliminated from the test.

“It created a huge problem,” said Mary Ellen Myrene, spokeswoman for Community Colleges of Spokane. “I doubt that they passed that test.”

The county’s largest testing site - Spokane Falls Community College - scheduled its next two-day test for Dec. 18 and 19.

Students can call 533-3571 for information about schedules at all test sites, which serve about 2,200 students each year.
