Jet Airways Places Boeing Order
Jet Airways, an Indian airline, will order six next-generation 737-800 and four 737-400 twinjets, The Boeing Co. said Wednesday.
The 10 airplanes are valued at approximately $486 million, Boeing said.
The first 737-800 deliveries to Jet Airways are scheduled for 1998, with remaining deliveries continuing through 2000.
Delivery for the 737-400s is scheduled to begin next year.
“This is strategically an important sale in India because of the significant growth we forecast for the domestic Indian market,” said Seddik Belyamani, vice president of international sales for Boeing Commercial Airplane Group.
Four-year-old Jet Airways is India’s largest private airline and currently operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet of 12 airplanes.
