Marilyn McKenna Spokane

Vigil service for Marilyn Rose McKenna, 60, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McKenna, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She was a teacher in the Central Valley School District.

She received the Desmet Medal from Gonzaga University, the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Medal from Gonzaga Preparatory School and the Bishop’s Medal from Bishop Lawrence Welsh.

Mrs. McKenna was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Junior League of Spokane, and was involved with the founding of the Pregnancy Care Center and the Right to Life Task Force.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dr. Jack McKenna; eight sons, John, Mike, Michael, Archie, Patrick, David and Kevin McKenna and Michael Johnson; four daughters, Kathleen Wilson, Kristine and Marybeth McKenna and Cathy Tracy; a brother, Patrick Walsh of Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister, Dolores Lancaster of Baltimore; and 17 grandchildren.

Janie Whiting Spokane

Visitation for Janie Marie Whiting, 52, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Vigil service will follow at 7 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial to follow.

Mrs. Whiting, who died Tuesday, was a lifetime Spokane resident and graduated from Shadle Park High School.

She worked as a secretary in a dental office and was a member of the Dental Wives club.

Survivors include her husband, Lynn Whiting; a son, Brent Whiting and a daughter, Shawna Whiting, both of Seattle; her parents, Mary Jane and Jack Wilson of Spokane; three brothers, John and Ken Wilson, both of Spokane and Dick Wilson of Medical Lake; five sisters, Carol Green of Odessa, Wash., Pauline Marienau of Las Vegas, Nev., Bernice Ackerman of Chattaroy, Alice Shafer of Idaho Falls, and Teresa Zeiler of Valleyford.

Anna Harris Spokane

Graveside service for Anna “Ann” F. Harris will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Harris, 77, died Tuesday.

She was born in Spokane and worked as a retail cashier.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard Harris; two daughters, Sheri and Darrelan Charbonneau; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jack Tracy Spokane

Memorial service for Jack G. Tracy, 67, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Tracy, who died Tuesday, was born in Limon, Colo.

He lived in Spokane and worked for the Davenport Hotel before World War II.

During the war he served as an Army drill sergeant.

He later lived in California and worked in retail.

Mr. Tracy returned to Spokane 27 years ago and owned and operated the Chung King Inn, the lunch counter at PM Jacoy’s and Tracy’s Cafe. He retired in the late 1980s.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Afton Tracy; a son, Ralph Tracy of Spokane; two daughters, Linda Kilmer and Vickie Tracy, both of Spokane; five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter; a brother, Louis Tracy of Rapid City, S.D.; and a sister, Dora Higginbotham of Hartline, Wash.

Sylvia Stafford Spokane

Service for Sylvia R. Stafford, 58, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stafford, who died Tuesday, was born in New Hope, Mo.

She was a resident of Spokane for 36 years and was active for many years with Weight Watchers, the American Heart Association and the Visiting Nurse Association.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, David Stafford; two sons, Paul Stafford of Tacoma and Matthew Stafford of Missoula; two daughters, Susan Cameron of Alpine, Wyo., and Lisa Newberg of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Ethel Collins Spokane

Service for Ethel M. Collins, 85, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Pines Mausoleum. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Collins, who died Monday, was born in Warren, Minn.

She was a 30-year Spokane resident and owned a restaurant.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. She married Ivan Laymon in 1931. He died in 1942.

She married Bill Collins in 1962. He died in 1967.

Mrs. Collins is survived by three daughters, Betty Aaseby of Spokane, Nancy Mills of St. Cloud, Minn., and Mickie Collins of Boring, Ore.; a son, Jerry Collins of Tacoma; five sisters, Lucille Houtare and Barbara Laudal, both of Lakeside, Ore., Mildred Breggen of Minneapolis, Florence Lamonte of Grand Forks, N.D., and Annabelle Thietje of Olympia; a brother, Ben Loeslie of Grand Forks; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.

Helen Waldron Spokane

Service for Helen S. Serben Waldron, 83, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Holy Cross Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Waldron died Sunday.

She was born in Grand Forks, British Columbia, and had lived in Spokane for 80 years.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Parish.

Two husbands, Thomas Serben and Percy Waldron, preceded her in death.

She is survived by six daughters, Delores Lawrence, Gloria Brewer and Cecelia Dellorto, all of Spokane, Carol Decesare of Canoga Park, Calif., Sherlee Pesta of Lynwood, Wash., and Patricia McLaughlin of Portland; three sons, Robert Serben of Spokane, Larry Serben of Deer Park and John Serben of Seattle; a brother, Pete Citi of Curlew, Wash.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Suan ‘SueAnn’ Franks Spokane

Service for Suan “SueAnn” Franks will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Franks died Saturday in Little Rock, Ark., while vacationing with family. She was 83.

She was born in Wallace and moved to Spokane in 1916 with her family.

She graduated from North Central High School and in 1933 married Anthony “Tony” Franks. They moved to Portland and returned to Spokane in 1944.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 40 years.

Her husband died in 1985.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Clark of Clinton, Ark.; a son, Richard Franks of Cottonwood, Calif.; a sister, Christine Wyckoff of Spokane; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Joseph Cunningham Spokane

Memorial service for Joseph L. Cunningham, 91, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-

South. Entombment will precede at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Cunningham, who died Monday, was born in Wisconsin and had lived in Spokane since 1937.

He worked as a shoe salesman, owned the Shoe Hospital in downtown Spokane and worked at Two Swabbies.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

His wife, Marian Cunningham, died in 1994.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Nelson of Spokane and Mary Jo Primlani of Renton, Wash.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gena Greve Bellevue, Wash.

Memorial service for Gena E. Greve, a former Spokane resident, was held.

Mrs. Greve, who died Dec. 5, was born on a farm near Carbury, N.D. She was 95.

She graduated from Minot State Teachers College and taught for 14 years.

She had lived in Spokane from 1950 to 1983.

Her husband of 52 years, Dick, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Greve is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Van Brero of Bellevue; a sister, Bernice Haugen of Spokane; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Lee Chestnut Spokane

Graveside service for Mary Lee Chestnut, 89, is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Colfax (Wash.) Cemetery. Memorial service will be held at a later date. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chestnut, who died Tuesday, was born in Hanna, Wyo. She received a teaching certificate from Central Washington University and taught primary school in Spokane for several years.

In 1938 she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Washington State University.

She served in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) from 1942 to 1945 and began teaching again after the war. She later received a master’s degree in education from WSU and a degree in education psychology from Columbia University.

She worked as a counselor at Richland High School until 1959.

She married Louis Chestnut in Seattle in 1959. The couple moved to Spokane, where Mrs. Chestnut worked as a counselor and educator at Booth Memorial Hospital until 1968. She then retired to help her husband manage Rebel Ranches in Colfax.

Her husband, vice president of the Federal Land Bank, died in 1994.

Mrs. Chestnut was a member of the Spokane Unitarian/Universalist Church and was active in the Interplayers theater group and the Salvation Army.

Survivors include a stepson, Chuck Chestnut of South Chatham, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Ann Crandall of Portland; a sister, Hilia Burton of McMinnville, Ore.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Alice Motley Addy, Wash.

Memorial service for Alice B. Motley, 82, is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Chewelah (Wash.) Church of Christ. Private burial will precede at Chewelah Memorial Park. Danekas Funeral Chapel Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Motley died Dec. 6.

She was born in Waverly, Wash.

She and her husband operated the Addy Tavern for many years.

She was a member of the Addy Women’s Club, and was an associate member of the Chewelah American Legion.

Her husband, Art Motley, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Wissink of Chewelah, Wash., and Donna Egland of Addy; a son, Ray Motley of Valley, Wash.; a half-brother, Ronald Shroder of Elk, Wash.; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Priscilla ‘Pat’ Kewosh Chattaroy

Private family service for Priscilla Kathaleen “Pat” Kewosh will be held at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park.

Mrs. Kewosh, a homemaker, died Sunday. She was 75.

She was born in Sand Springs, Okla., and had lived in Deer Park and Chattaroy for more than 50 years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Kewosh; a son, Robert Kewosh Jr. of Deer Park; two daughters, Debbie Yingst of Deer Park and Janis Newman of Colbert; a sister, Jerri Gross of Houston; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marie Griffiths Spokane

Private service for Marie Griffiths, 85, will be held. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Griffiths, who died Monday, was born in Spokane.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Dolores “Dee” Waterhouse of Spokane; a brother; two sisters; three granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

Roe Crabtree Spokane

Visitation for Roe Donald Crabtree, 79, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Mr. Crabtree, who died Dec. 7, was born in Stayton, Ore.

He graduated from high school in Stayton and attended Willamette University in Salem, Ore. He graduated from Oregon State College with a degree in farm management.

He served in World War II as an aviation engineer officer building airfields in the Mediterranean and in the Korean conflict at Fairchild Air Force Base.

He also served as a major in the Air Force Reserve.

He had lived in Spokane for 55 years and worked for the federal Soil Conservation Service in Fairfield, Spokane and Colfax, Wash., for 10 years. He also worked for Farm Journal, Greenacres Soil Service and Moore-Perma Mulch Co.

He also owned the Garland Freezer, an ice cream store.

Mr. Crabtree was a member of the Soil Conservation Society and Rotary International.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Frances; four sons, Doug and John Crabtree, both of Spokane, Tim Crabtree of Olympia and Jim Crabtree of Key West Fla.; his father, Floyd Crabtree of Stayton; two sisters, Doris Forrette of Stayton and Maxine Bullock of Salem; a brother, Dale Crabtree of Eugene, Ore.; one grandchild and two step-grandchildren.

John Rudolph Davenport, Wash.

Memorial service for John J. Rudolph, 68, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church and Community Hall in Egypt, Wash. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Rudolph died last Friday.

He was born in Wabeno, Wis.

Mr. Rudolph worked in Wisconsin for 25 years as a machinist before he moved to Spokane in 1967.

In Spokane, he worked for ASC Machine Tools until 1974 when he moved to Davenport. He worked for Lincoln Mill in Davenport and as a school bus driver and maintenance man for the Davenport School District. He retired in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; three sons, Robin Rudolph of Davenport, Steven and Paul Rudolph, both of Wisconsin; a stepson, James Hensel of Portland; a stepdaughter, Roxanne Ahlskog of Greenacres and 12 grandchildren.

Patricia (Garff) Anderegg Salt Lake City

Service for Patricia Garff Anderegg, a former Central Valley School District teacher, was Wednesday in Salt Lake City. Burial will be at Holladay Memorial Park in Salt Lake City.

Mrs. Anderegg, 51, died Saturday in Salt Lake City, where she was also born.

She graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate.

She moved to Spokane Valley in 1981.

She taught grade school in the Central Valley School District and also taught music and piano.

Mrs. Anderegg and her family returned to Utah last June.

She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by two sons, Adam Anderegg of Orem, Utah, and Daniel Anderegg of Salt Lake City; three daughters, Julie, Sarah and Emily Anderegg, all of Salt Lake City; her parents, Elmo and Kathryn Garff of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Suzanne Reynolds and Kathryn Robinson, and a brother, Richard Garff, all of Salt Lake City.

Ralph ‘Pop’ Adams Medical Lake

Memorial service for Ralph “Pop” Adams, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ball and Dodd Medical Lake Funeral Home.

Mr. Adams, who died Monday, was born in Athens, Ill., and moved to Medical Lake 18 years ago.

He owned the Cheney Laundry Center from 1978 to 1982.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maxine Adams; two sons, Dean Adams of Spokane and David Adams of Medical Lake; four sisters, Maxine Ferricks and Mildred Hamilton, both of Athens, Ill., Christine Chambers of Whittier, Calif., and Ruby Miller of Greenview, Ill.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Frank Falk Portland

Burial Mass for Frank Joseph Falk, 82, a former Spokane resident, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Portland. Private burial will be at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes in Portland is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Falk, who died Wednesday, was born in Tyler, Wash.

He graduated from Gonzaga University in 1938 and married Ursula Hill in Spokane in 1940.

He retired from DuPont Company as a sales representative in 1974 and lived in Priest Lake, Idaho, Yuma, Ariz., and since 1990, in Portland.

Mr. Falk is survived by his wife; five sons, Joe Falk of Yakima, George Falk of Annandale, Va., Jim Falk of Spokane, Al Falk of Tacoma and Mark Falk of Fort Washington, Md.; a daughter, Sally Probst of Milwaukie, Ore.; and eight grandchildren.

Carol Pokall Bloomington, Ill.

No service will be held for Carol Jean Pokall, 53, a former Spokane resident. East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pokall, who died Dec. 6, was born in Parker, Ind.

She was a registered nurse and had worked at St. Luke’s Extended Care in Spokane. She moved to Indiana in 1992 and worked there as a nurse.

She was a member of the National Association for Female Executives and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Mrs. Pokall is survived by her husband, Henry Pokall; two daughters, Connie Christian of Spokane and Laura Ferris of Wenatchee; two stepdaughters, Lara Pokall and Sylvia Judge, both of Spokane; a son, Phil Ferris of Marysville, Wash.; her mother, Mildred Swingley of Coeur d’Alene; a brother, Don Swingley of Cataldo, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

Melvin Novotney Wilbur, Wash.

Service for Melvin Novotney, 88, was Monday at Wilbur Lutheran Church. Burial was at Wilbur Cemetery.

Mr. Novotney, who was born in Mount Vernon, Wash., died Dec. 5.

He worked as a ferry boat operator for the Washington Department of Transportation for 45 years, working at Keller, Wash. He was a member of Wilbur Lutheran Church.

His wife, Hazel, died in October.

Mr. Novotney is survived by three sons, Melvin Novotney of Wilbur, Edward Novotney of Keller and Gaylord Novotney of Arlington, Wash.; six brothers, Carl Novotney of Ontario, Ore., Fred, James and Bob Novotney, all of Wilbur, Cliff Novotney of Republic, Wash., and Gene Novotney of Keller; four sisters, Adeline Palmer of Omak, Wash., and Margaret Friedland, Laura Groh and Dorla Reister, all of Wilbur; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
