Fred Pool Moscow, Idaho

Service for Fred Pool, 85, will be at 10 a.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse.

Mr. Pool, who died Thursday, was born near Palouse.

He attended schools near Palouse and worked as a farmhand for local farmers.

In 1933, he married Harriet Chase in Coeur d’Alene, and they lived in Potlatch, Idaho, and Palouse. Mr. Pool worked for Stapleton Motors in Potlatch as a mechanic for several years and from 1942 to 1955 worked for Potlatch Forests Inc.

His family moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1955 and Mr. Pool worked as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic for a road construction company. He retired in 1971.

He lived in Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls until moving to Latah Health Services in Moscow earlier this month.

He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 370.

Mr. Pool is survived by his wife; a son, Ron Pool of Moscow; a daughter, Evelyn Crumley of Potlatch; two sisters, Maude Brood of Moscow and Della Palmer of Bellevue; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Hertha Perica Spokane

Service for Hertha H. Perica, 83, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Perica, who died Wednesday, was born in Gifford, Idaho, and had lived in Spokane for 63 years.

She was a homemaker and a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and the South Hill Senior Center.

Her husband, Edward Perica, died in 1987.

She is survived by a sister, Irma Olsen of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Lisa Shields Otis Orchards

Memorial service for Lisa A. Shields, 33, will be at noon today at Berean Bible Church. Hennessey-Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shields, who died Nov. 28, was born in Spokane and graduated from East Valley High School.

She was a member of Berean Bible Church and a member of Mothers of Pre-Schoolers.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Shields; four children, Travis, Timothy, Tyler and Tess; her mother and stepfather, Alice and Wesley Hamilton of Spokane; her father and stepmother, Ronn and Bonnie Caro of Spokane; two brothers Ron and Bruce Caro, both of Spokane; and two sisters, Tia Lesser of Spokane and Becky Bumgarner of Ridgecrest, Calif.

Gene ‘Andy’ Anderson Spokane

Memorial service for Gene T. “Andy” Anderson, 70, is set for 11 a.m. today at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Private inurnment will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Anderson, who died Wednesday, was born and raised in Lind, Wash.

He served in Army during World War II and worked as a ranch hand in the Connell, Wash., area for five years.

He then worked for Consolidated Freightways for 30 years and retired in 1986.

Mr. Anderson was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Retired Teamsters Association where he had served as president for four years. He was also a member of the Lind Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Nadine Anderson; seven children, William and Gina Anderson, Lee Palmer, Dan and Dennis Hamlin, Sharon Stinebaugh and Gayla Hansen, all of Spokane; a sister, Thelma Lee of Wenatchee; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Helen Seipp Spokane

Vigil service for Helen Mary Seipp, 79, will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Seipp, who died Wednesday, was born in Crosby, N.D.

She was a member of the Cathedral of our Lady of Lourdes and had lived in Spokane for 61 years.

Her husband, Henry Seipp, died in 1973.

She is survived by a son, Henry Seipp Jr. of Liberty Lake; two daughters, Donna Oberlander of Spokane and Margaret Calverase of Seattle; a sister, Marie Ash of Springfield, Ill.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns.

James Morton Spokane

Private service will be held for James Delevan Morton. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Morton, who died Monday, was born in Lamont, Wash.

He had lived in Spokane since returning from Army service during World War II.

He worked as a freight train brakeman and conductor for more than 35 years with Burlington Northern Railroad.

He received his private pilot’s license on his 65th birthday.

Mr. Morton is survived by a brother, Arthur Morton of Prineville, Ore.; three daughters, Sandy Linse of Yakima, Karen Liljegren of Western Washington and Heidi Wohl of Greenacres; and eight grandchildren.

Dale Bloyed Spokane

Service for Dale Eugene Bloyed, 80, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Born in Johnson Switch, Ark., Mr. Bloyed died Dec. 7.

He worked as a well driller and had lived in Spokane for 22 years.

He served in the 5th Army Division, 7th Infantry, during World War II and served in five campaigns including North Africa and Sicily, Italy.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Mr. Bloyed is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bloyed; five sons, Stanley, John, Samuel and David Bloyed, all of Spokane, and Steven Bloyed of LaGrande, Ore.; a daughter, Dale Schrimshaw of Portland; a brother, Edward Bloyed of Lovelock, Nev.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

Alice Roberts Spokane

No service will be held for Alice A. Roberts, 73. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Roberts, a 37-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She was born in Austin, Minn.

Mrs. Roberts was the Package Store manager at Fairchild Air Force Base and retired in 1988 after 30 years.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ladies of the Shrine and the Daughters of the Nile.

Her husband, James Roberts, died in 1982.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan Hein of Medical Lake and Pam Howard of Chehalis, Wash.; a brother, George Geannakouri of Wisconsin; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Alice Rhoads Spokane

Graveside memorial service for Alice R. Rhoads, 90, is set for 3 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rhoads, who died Tuesday, was born in Missoula.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and Eastern Washington University. She worked as an elementary schoolteacher.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Rhoads is survived by four daughters, Lynn Rhoads of Seattle, Nola Hight of Warrenton, Ore., Quinndara Woodworth of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Jeanette Mahn of Spokane; two sons, Richard Rhoads of Vashon Island, Wash., and Terry Franks of Spokane; a sister, Francis Miles of Spokane; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Othmar ‘Otto’ Kessler Spokane

Private family service for Othmar H. “Otto” Kessler, 97, was held.

Mr. Kessler, who was born in Uniontown, Wash., died Dec. 8.

He was a farmer in Uniontown for 20 years and later worked for the Carnation Company as a pasteurizer from 1941 to 1964.

He moved to Spokane 55 years ago.

His first wife of 60 years, Gertrude, died in 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Alveretta; two daughters, Phyllis Johnson of Spokane and Carol Craft of Loveland, Colo.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Walter Greear Spokane

Memorial service for Walter C. “Wally” Greear, 63, is planned for 3 p.m. today at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be held. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Greear, who died Tuesday, was a lifetime Spokane resident and worked as a car salesman.

He was a Navy veteran.

His wife, Carolyn, died in 1980.

Mr. Greear is survived by two daughters, Leslie Meiners of Walla Walla and Tami Roesler of Mead; two brothers; seven sisters; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Rose Nutt Spokane

Service for Rose Mary Nutt, 73, will be at 1 p.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. There will be private burial. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nutt, who died Wednesday, was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Rex Nutt Sr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Gary Nutt, and a daughter, Carolyn Nutt, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Hazel Childress Kennewick

Private burial will be held at a later date for Hazel R. Childress. Mueller’s Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Childress, a former Spokane resident, died Sunday. She was 88.

She was born in Tonasket, Wash.

She lived in the Spokane Valley from 1975 until 1990, when she moved to the Tri-Cities.

She worked as a cook.

Mrs. Childress is survived by a son, Clee Childress of the Tri-Cities.
