Japan Lures Greenwell
Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Mike Greenwell says he will play in Japan next season. Greenwell reached agreement with the Hanshin Tigers, he told the Boston Herald, and plans to sign today.
Lefthander David Wells, 33, and the New York Yankees agreed on a three-year deal, with a club option for a fourth season. The contract guarantees him $13.5 million; with incentives and the fourth-year salary, it could reach $19 million. Wells stands to become the No. 3 starter.
