Murder Suspects Say Infant Brain-Damaged
Lawyers for Amy S. Grossberg and Brian C. Peterson Jr. offered a first glimpse of their defense Tuesday, saying the infant the teenage couple is charged with killing had brain damage prior to birth and might not have survived outside the womb.
“We have … developed incontrovertible proof that the infant had congenital brain damage months before the baby came into the world that seriously compromised the viability of that infant,” Peterson defense lawyer Jack L. Litman argued.
“Neither Amy nor Brian intended to harm the child.”
The college freshmen formally pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder.
