Ernest Demby Spokane
Graveside service for Ernest Demby, 68, was Tuesday at Pines Cemetery.
Born in Republic, Ala., Mr. Demby died Saturday.
He entered the Army in 1948 and retired in 1976. He then moved to Spokane.
He graduated from Spokane Community College and worked for KHQ. He retired in 1993.
Mr. Demby is survived by his wife, Yang Demby; two daughters, Kim and Karen Demby, both of Spokane; and a sister, Alice Malone of Cleveland.
John Borgen Spokane
Service for John Wallace Borgen, 80, was held Monday.
Born in Nevada, Iowa, Mr. Borgen died Dec. 5.
He worked as an accountant and had lived in Spokane for 22 years.
His wife, Helen, died in 1994.
He is survived by two brothers, Kenneth Borgen of Seattle and James Borgen of Barbertown, Ohio.
Virgil Sprague Spokane
Memorial service for Virgil O. Sprague, 86, will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.
Mr. Sprague died Sunday.
He was born in Chattaroy and lived in Spokane most of his life.
He had worked as a trust officer with Old National Bank.
He was active in the Boy Scouts as both a scoutmaster and scouting commissioner. He received the Silver Beaver Scouting Award.
He was also a Navy veteran and past master of Masonic Lodge 102 in Medical Lake.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret “Peggy” Sprague; two sons, Donald Sprague of Butte, Mont., and Douglas Sprague of Winnepeg, Alberta; a sister, Carol Brady of Anchorage, Alaska; and two grandchildren.
Mildred McDonald Spokane
Memorial service for Mildred R. McDonald, 71, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Berean Bible Church. Private burial will precede. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McDonald died Sunday. She was born in Providence, R.I.
She married Bill McDonald in 1947 and was a homemaker.
She was a Spokane Valley resident for 66 years and was a member of Berean Bible Church, where she arranged flowers every Sunday for 11 years.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Laurie Tabor and Christine Roe, both of Spokane; a brother, Cecil Dillon of Tacoma; and four grandchildren.
Dennis Linton Priest River, Idaho
Service for Dennis L. Linton, 51, will be at noon Thursday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.
Mr. Linton, who died Saturday, was born in Spokane.
He was a longtime Priest River resident, graduating from high school there, and worked for Idaho Forest Industries.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Linton Jr., of Seattle; a daughter, Lani Linton of Marysville, Wash.; his mother, Ellen Linton of Priest River; six brothers, Jim, Curtis and Micky Linton, all of Priest River, Gerald Linton of Darby, Mont., Ray Linton of Chattaroy, and Delbert Linton of Colbert; two sisters, June Pettit of Priest Lake and Joy Altmaier of Priest River; and the mother of his children, Lori.
Garrett Matthews Spokane
Memorial service for Garrett G. Matthews, 74, is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.
He died Saturday.
He was born in Blue River, Wis.
Mr. Matthews graduated from high school in Colorado and served as a bomber pilot in the Air Force during World War II.
He had lived in Spokane for 42 years and owned Southern Hardwood and Construction Products in Spokane for 40 years.
He was a charter member of the Hillyard Rotary Club and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Valley Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, De Loris; two daughters, Claudia Weigel and Marsha Thompson, both of Spokane; two brothers; five sisters, four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Margaret Hightower Spokane
No service will be held for Margaret L. Hightower. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hightower, a 60-year Spokane County resident, died Saturday. She was 86.
She was born in Spokane and grew up in Chewelah, Wash., where she graduated from Jenkins High School. She also graduated from the Northwestern Business College.
She worked for the Federal Land Bank in Spokane for many years and as a legal secretary.
Two husbands, Carl Stephens and William Hightower, preceded her in death.
Survivors include four nieces.
John Rowse Spokane
Visitation for John Loren Rowse, 69, is scheduled from noon to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Rowse, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.
He worked as a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; three sons, Steven, Thomas and Robert, all of Spokane; two brothers, Lawrence and Raymond, both of Spokane; and five grandchildren.
Joseph Schwagerl Spokane
Memorial service for Joseph L. “Joe” Schwagerl, 64, is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Mr. Schwagerl, who died Saturday, was born in Lake Benton, Minn.
He had lived in Spokane for 30 years and worked as a field engineer.
Mr. Schwagerl was a member of the American Legion Post 9 and the National Rifle Association. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Roberta Schwagerl; four daughters, Suzette Charbonneau, Marie Carrier, Michelle Tsuchida and April Gouin, all of Spokane; three sons, Gregory Schwagerl of Puyallup, Wash., Mitch Schwagerl of Marietta, Ga., and Joseph Schwagerl of Spokane; three brothers, three sisters and 11 grandchildren.
Pearl Braucht Spokane
Visitation for Pearl L. Braucht, 88, is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial at Pines Cemetery. Mrs. Braucht, a 70-year Spokane resident, died Friday.
She was born in Loomis, Wash.
She graduated from high school in Tonasket, Wash., and was a homemaker. She also worked in several restaurants and taught ceramic classes.
She attended Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Everett, died in 1977.
Survivors include four sons, Bernard of Las Vegas, Nev., David of Spokane, Obert of Greenacres and Ronald of Kirkland, Wash.; a brother, Jay Hill, and a sister, Mary Gratrix, both of Loomis; 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Donald Darden Spokane
Family service for Donald Franklin Darden, 76, will be held. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Darden, a 28-year Spokane resident, died Friday.
He was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., and graduated from the University of Wyoming.
At the university, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the football team.
He worked as a licensed mechanical engineer.
In 1942, he married Lucylle Olsen. She died in 1987.
He had served in the Army.
He is survived by two sons, Jim Darden of Bellingham and Bill Darden of Portland; a daughter, Mary Ann Vanwert of Spokane; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Richard Lundeen Reardan, Wash.
Memorial service for Richard G. Lundeen, 60, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Hayford Community Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.
Mr. Lundeen, who died Monday, was born in Chicago.
He worked as a counterman for a heating, air conditioning and plumbing company in Chicago. He moved to Reardan 10 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Lundeen, and a son, Ricky Lundeen of Chicago.
