Book Captures The Chill Of Ice Storm

The chill is gone, but Ice Storm ‘96 will forever be frozen in the memories of those who endured the days of darkness.

Now a dramatic 96-page full-color book recounting the Inland Northwest’s biggest weather emergency in 100 years is available for Christmas.

“Ice Storm ‘96: Days of Darkness, Days of Cold” pulls together the work of Spokesman-Review reporters and photographers who covered this story ‘round-the-clock from Nov. 19 until early December.

The moving personal journals kept by Inland Northwest residents Gleyn Bledsoe, Marilyn Hart and Kathleen Corkery Spencer also are republished as part of this commemorative volume.

“Ice Storm ‘96” is available beginning today at Spokesman-Review offices in downtown Spokane, the Spokane Valley, Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint and Pullman.

The book also will be available in area grocery stores and other retail outlets later this week.

The volume was compiled and published by New Media Ventures, a subsidiary of Cowles Publishing Co., and printed by Lawton Printing Inc. of Spokane.

The book retails for $13.95.
