Central Methodist To Offer Christmas Lunch

Central United Methodist Church has several Christmas events planned for next week.

A special “Scripture and Song” service featuring the Temple Choir will be at 10 a.m. Sunday. A “birthday party for Jesus” will follow the service at 11 a.m. A free lunch of soup and bread, along with birthday cake, will be served.

A special worship service will be Christmas Eve at 7 p.m. On Christmas Day, church members will serve lunch to the community at noon. All are welcome to attend that free lunch.

All events will be held at the church, 518 W. Third.

Christmas events elsewhere include:

The annual Candlelight Christmas Concert will take place at 4 and 8 p.m. Sunday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th. The concert will feature the Clarion Brass Choir.

Tickets must be purchased in advance through G&B Select-A-Seat by calling 325-SEAT. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $6 for children under 12.

Also on Sunday, the cathedral will present a special “Lessons and Carols” service at 10 a.m. featuring the Cathedral choir.

The celebration of Christmas Eve will begin with a carillon concert at 5:15 p.m. The bells of the church, played by a keyboard, will play for 30 minutes.

A family worship service featuring the cathedral choir will be at 4 p.m. Another carillon concert will be at 9:15 p.m., followed by a special Christmas concert at 9:45 p.m. A worship service will follow at 10:30 p.m.

An informal worship service will be held at 10 a.m. on Christmas Day and will include the singing of Christmas carols.

City Gate, 114 S. Madison, will be serving free lunch and distributing baskets of fruit from 1 to 5 p.m. on Christmas Day. The City Gate ministry serves downtown residents.

“The Thief of Bethlehem,” a Christmas musical for children, will be presented at the 8:45 and 11 a.m. Sunday services at Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd. The musical is about a young boy who tries to steal Jesus’ gifts and has a transformation.

The church will celebrate a Blue Christmas or Longest Night service at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The service is designed for people who are dealing with grief, sadness or loneliness.

Refreshments will be served after the service.

First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar, will hold a special service called “Celebrate the Child” at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The service will feature a living Nativity scene and Christmas carols.

There will also be services on Christmas Eve at 5, 8 and 10 p.m.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will offer two Christmas Eve services: a family service at 5 p.m. and another service at 10 p.m. The church is at 5720 S. Perry.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 314 S. Spruce, will hold its Christmas Eve candlelight service at 5:30 p.m. A Christmas Day service will be at 10:30 a.m.

On the West Plains, Cheney Community Church, at 1307 3rd in Cheney, will have a 5 p.m. service on Christmas Eve.
