Grandmother Knows Best, Campbell Says

Associated Press

Campbell Soup Co. is launching a new campaign for its chicken noodle soup tied to the cold and flu season.

The Camden-based company said it is the first time it has ever pitched its chicken noodle soup as relief for people with colds or flu-like ailments.

While conceding its soup won’t cure the common cold, Campbell says it hopes to capitalize on frequently given grandmotherly advice that chicken soup will make you feel better, said company spokesman Kevin Lowery.

The new marketing strategy comes as the number of people around the country suffering from coughing, wheezing and muscle aches soars each week.

Campbell will spend millions of dollars on the national advertising campaign.
