Former Boston Red Sox manager Butch Hobson was expected to be in Rhode Island today, indicating a plea agreement had been reached on a cocaine possession charge against him.

A hearing was scheduled before Providence Superior Court Judge Henry Gemma. Hobson was expected to be there, Christopher Shaban, spokesman for Attorney General Jeff Pine, said.

He would not comment when asked if a deal had been reached, but said there was “a possibility of a disposition” to the case.

Stephen Famiglietti, Hobson’s lawyer, did not return a phone call seeking comment. However, his secretary said Hobson was scheduled to fly from Alabama to Rhode Island on Wednesday.
