Nafta Impact Varies By Region
The regions that have gained the most jobs because of NAFTA are also the ones hardest hit by trade with Mexico, according to a U.S. government-funded study at the University of California at Los Angeles.
They are: Southern California, Texas, southern Florida, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania and other northeastern states.
Trade with Canada most affected the northwestern states and areas near the Great Lakes.
Four California counties - Los Angeles, Santa Clara, San Diego and Orange - were among the 10 hardest hit by imports from Mexico, as were four counties from Michigan: Genessee, Wayne, Oakland, and Ingham. xxxx
