A former employee and her boyfriend were arrested Sunday on charges of robbing the Dollars store at University City Mall.

Spokane County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 17-year-old girl and Cory C. Rutty, 21, at their Valley apartment.

A Dollars manager discovered Sunday morning that cash and checks had been stolen from the store safe. The money disappeared between 10 p.m. Saturday and 8:10 a.m. Sunday.

The 17-year-old girl had either quit or been fired in the past few days, according to deputies.

In the apartment, deputies found more than $2,500 in cash and drug paraphernalia that tested positive for methamphetamine.

The girl and her boyfriend were being held Sunday night on charges of second-degree burglary and drug possession. Rutty was also arrested for outstanding felony warrants, authorities said.
