Popularity Didn’t Save This Poacher

Baltimore Sun

Coexisting with man is still not an easy proposition for wolves. Three have been killed by cars; three others by bullets from poachers or ranchers.

But a strange thing happened when one of those poachers, Chad McKittrick, 26, stood trial in Billings, Mont., for killing a huge, handsome alpha male known officially as “Alpha 10,” but unofficially as “Arnold.”

In the bars in Red Lodge, where he was from, McKittrick had been the toast of the town. But in the cold light of day, a jury of his peers convicted him of a felony - and he served six months in jail.
