Bad Nixon Stamp Fetches Pretty Penny

Compiled From Wire Services

A misprinted 32-cent Richard M. Nixon commemorative stamp, one of 160 with the president’s name printed upside down and his portrait cut in half, sold Thursday for $16,675 at an auction.

The price was well above the $8,000 to $10,000 estimate that officials of Christie’s auction house had placed on the stamp last month when they disclosed the rare printing error.

Neither the individual who discovered the stamp nor the purchaser was identified.
