Check Attic For Roof Leaks
If you haven’t given a thought to your roof lately, it may be time you did. Adverse weather conditions and age can make your roof more susceptible than you think.
You could be unpleasantly surprised with a leak one day soon.
There are several things you might be able to do to investigate your roof’s condition.
Inside your home, you may be able to spot things such as discolored walls or flaking paint in areas where the ceiling meets the walls. These are areas you might not normally be examining day to day.
When the winter snows begin to melt, go up in your attic or crawl-space and begin the inspection.
Have a flashlight you can handle if accessing your attic requires you to use a ladder or pull-down ladder but which can be set down or attached so you can use your hands.
Look for darkened or stained wood in the rafters or the roof sheathing. Remember that water may actually enter your roof above the point where you find the darkened wood.
It may travel along a roof truss a long way, so you’ll have to be a bit of a detective.
Once you find the problem, it may be possible to patch the hole, but if the problem seems too big or the roof is due for replacement anyway, consult a professional.
