School Board To Winnow List Of 12 Applicants For Open Seat
Twelve people have filed applications for an open seat on the Spokane School Board, including a retired attorney who served on the board in the 1950s.
The board plans to select three to five finalists before conducting interviews Feb. 21. The board hopes to choose a new member at its Feb. 28 meeting, said President Terrie Beaudreau.
The applicants are:
Lonny Bingle, 36, pastor of Spokane Faith Center and a member of the district’s Citizens Advisory Committee. He has four children and lives on the North Side. He ran for a board post last fall, losing in the primary.
Linda Bradin, 39, a West Central neighborhood resident, school volunteer and parent of a fourth-grader. She serves on the district’s Title 1 Advisory Committee.
Keith Campbell, 76, a retired attorney, former state legislator and North Side resident. He served on the School Board from 1955-1961.
Richard L. Chase, age unavailable, a North Side resident and father of four. He works for Spokane Youth Sports Association.
Don Higgins, 49, executive director of the West Central Community Center and a founding member of COPS West. He is a south Spokane resident and has one grown son.
Michael Kohler, 46, an accountant and member of the district’s Citizens Advisory Committee. He has four children.
Nancy McLaughlin, 37, a North Side resident and member of the district’s Citizens Advisory Committee. She has three children and works part-time in her husband’s carpentry business.
David Morgan, 48, a pediatrician. He lives in southeast Spokane, has four children and is a former member of the district’s Citizens Advisory Committee.
Jennifer Roseman, 43, an East Central resident and director of communications and development for Community Colleges of Spokane. She has two children and has served on district committees.
Rocco Treppiedi, 43, a North Side resident and an assistant city attorney. He sits on the district’s Gifted Education Advisory Committee. He has three children. He ran for a board seat in the fall, losing in the general election.
Velvet Scott, 34, a North Side resident and a legal clerical assistant. She has a 4-year-old daughter and shares custody of two nephews and a niece who are students in Spokane schools.
Dominic Zamora, 34, a tax law attorney and South Hill resident. He has one child.
The new board member will succeed John Warn, who resigned Dec. 31 after 28 years on the board. The appointee will serve until the next board election in November of 1997.
