Linda Rider Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Linda Lee Rider, 53, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Rider, who was born in Shelley, Idaho, died Wednesday.
She moved to the Wolf Lodge area near Coeur d’Alene in 1952 and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1960. She attended North Idaho Junior College.
Ms. Rider had worked as the secretary at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds for 11 years and also worked for the Iron Horse restaurant and Northwest Realty.
Survivors include her parents, Evan and Betty Rider, two brothers, Robert and John Rider, and two sisters, Olivia Oare and Merry Dingman, all of Wolf Lodge.

Russell DeWitt Spokane
Service for Russell A. DeWitt, 64, is planned for 10:30 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. DeWitt died Tuesday. He was born in Coulee Dam and was raised in Conconully, Wash.
He served in the military during the Korean War and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base.
Russell worked at Crowder Lumber Co. for several years and then at United Paints in Spokane for 23 years. He had worked at Gonzaga University for the past 12 years as a maintenance engineer.
He is survived by two sons, Jeff and Tim DeWitt, both of Spokane; one daughter, Debra Ferraro of Spokane; one brother, Rod DeWitt of Okanogan, Wash.; three sisters, Carman Hinch and Jeanene Milicia, both of Richland, and Colleen McCanse of Benton City, Wash.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bryon Koesterman Colfax, Wash.
Memorial service for Bryon D. Koesterman, 19, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints in Mountlake Terrace, Wash.
Mr. Koesterman, a former Spokane resident, died last Saturday when the crab boat he was working on capsized during a violent storm in the Bering Sea.
Mr. Koesterman was born in Spokane and attended Lewis and Clark High School. He moved to Colfax in 1992 and took his first trip on the fishing boat in October 1995.
Mr. Koesterman is survived by his parents, Tim and Merri Jayne Koesterman of Colfax; one sister, Brenda Koesterman of Seattle; his grandfather, Jack Wood of Moses Lake; and his grandmother, Irene Severson of Spokane.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Fishermen’s Memorial Fund in care of Paine-Webber Inc., 1201 Third Ave. No. 2400, Seattle, WA 98101. The contributions will be used by the seven families affected by the accident.
Fred Cook Wilbur, Wash.
Service for Fred D. Cook, 86, is set for 11 a.m. today at Wilbur Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cook, who was born in Wilbur, died Monday.
He was a meat cutter.
He was a member of Wilbur Lutheran Church and a 1931 graduate of Gonzaga High School.
His wife, Marian Cook, died in 1985.
He is survived by one son, Ival “Ike” Cook of Wilbur; four daughters, Joyce Boyer of Moses Lake, Rae Gessford of Washougal, Wash., Karen Cole of Davenport, Wash., and Jean Northrop of Vancouver, Wash.; one foster son, Albert Steele of Spokane; one sister, Louise Linman of California; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Katherine Poirier Spokane
Vigil service for Katherine A. Poirier, 81, is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mrs. Poirier died Wednesday.
She was born in Holland and had lived in Spokane for more than 30 years.
She graduated from Kellogg High School and from Lewiston Normal School. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Two husbands preceded her in death: Gerald Hemp in 1957 and Ted Poirier in 1986.
Survivors include two sons, William Hemp of Simi Valley, Calif., and Mick Hemp of Anaheim, Calif.; one daughter, Judi Haas of Mertztown, Pa.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothea Winebarger Post Falls
Memorial service for Dorothea L. Winebarger, 83, will be held later at the McGuire Wesleyan Church. Burial was held Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Winebarger, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Wednesday.
She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and later moved to Post Falls, where she owned a produce farm.
She worked as a welder at the Portland shipyards during World War II before moving back to Post Falls, where she owned Harold’s Recreation.
Mrs. Winebarger later moved to Nevada and Montana before returning to Post Falls in 1973 to settle in the McGuire area.
She was preceded in death by two husbands: C.H. Breeding and Rom Winebarger.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Winebarger of Las Vegas, Nev., and George Breeding of Spokane; two daughters, Irene Moore of Las Vegas and Mary Kehoe of California; one brother, Willard Largent of Hayden Lake, Idaho; and several grandchildren.
Martha Ravens Spokane
Memorial service for Martha Ravens, 88, is set for 2 p.m. Monday at Centenary United Methodist Church. Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ravens, who was born in West Virginia, died Wednesday.
She moved to Spokane in 1951 from Redlands, Calif. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and volunteered at Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
Her husband of 21 years, Clarence Ravens, died in 1972.
She is survived by two nieces, Martha Lou Pontius of Los Alamitos, Calif., and Jean Simpson of Spokane.

Robert Silhavy Coeur d’Alene
At his request, no service is planned for Robert Carl Silhavy, 76. Mesa Funeral Care in Mesa, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Silhavy, who was born in Kirksville, Mo., died Jan. 24.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering at the Missouri School of Mines. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers as a captain during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. He was a prisoner of war for four years and survived the Bataan Death March.
Mr. Silhavy came to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1970 from California. He was self employed as a Realtor, bowling center manager and motel owner.
He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Elks Lodge, Coeur d’Alene Men’s Golf Club and the American Ex-Prisoners of War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie.
Survivors include a son, Bob Jr. of Spokane.

Dwaine ‘Smitty’ Smith Spokane
Private cremation will be held for Dwaine “Smitty” Smith, 67. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith, who was born in Spangle, died Monday.
He worked as a carpenter in commercial construction and most recently as a truck driver for Condon Brothers Inc.
He was a member of the American Legion post in Cheney.
Survivors include his wife, Nina Smith; three sons, Mark and Tim Smith, both of Spokane, and Jason Smith, at home; two brothers, Don Smith of Cheney and Bob Smith of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Floyd Johnson Spokane
Memorial service for Floyd E. Johnson, 67, was Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson, who died Jan. 21, was born in Spokane.
His family moved to the Spokane Valley in 1933.
He joined the Air Force in the spring of his senior year at West Valley High School and was stationed in Japan with the Occupational Forces after World War II.
He worked as a district manager for Rena Ware for many years and retired from SNE Window Products at Spokane Industrial Park.
Mr. Johnson is survived by two sisters, Anna Hull and Helen Courchaine, both of Spokane; six daughters, Connie Tye and Karen Kheeler, both of Spokane, Deborah Johnson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Tina Christen of Nine Mile Falls, Tammey DeRose of Wausau, Wis., and Cindy Beers of Layton, Utah; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Adelaide Gardner Spokane
No service will be held for Adelaide Slack Gardner, 85. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.
Mrs. Gardner, who was born in Vernon County, Wis., died Jan. 26.
She was a 65-year Spokane resident.
She graduated from high school in Viroqua, Wis., and later that year moved to Spokane.
She had worked as a clerk at JC Penney.
In 1931 she married George Farr. He died in 1976, and in 1979 she married Lester Gardner, who died in 1986.
She is survived by one sister, Ruth Gardner of Viroqua; and one brother, Wesley Slack of Westby, Wis.
Marshall Watzke Worley, Idaho
No service will be held for Marshall R. Watzke, 69. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Watzke, who was born in Colfax, Wash., died Tuesday.
He graduated from high school in LaCrosse, Wash., and graduated from Reed College in Portland.
He worked in the newspaper industry and had written several political speeches for Nelson Rockefeller. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include an aunt, Dorothy McClure of Spokane.
Lillian Crain Marcus, Wash.
At her request, no service will be held for Lillian B. Crain, 96. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Crain, an 85-five year Marcus and Northport, Wash., resident, died Wednesday.
Born in Cedar Falls, Wis., she attended Cheney Normal School and received a teaching certificate from Washington State College.
She was a teacher and rancher in Stevens County for many years.
She married Oscar Crain in 1924 in Hunters, Wash. He died in 1964.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary White of Marcus; one son, Phil Crain of Northport; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Raymond Ballard Spokane
Service for Raymond L. Ballard, 59, will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society is in charge of cremation.
Born in Bemidji, Minn., Mr. Ballard died Jan. 26.
He had lived in Spokane since 1939.
He worked as a hod carrier and was a member of Laborers Union No. 238.
He is survived by one son, Raymond Ballard of Seattle; one daughter, Shelli McCulloch of Lynnwood, Wash.; one sister, Clarice Brooks of Spokane; his companion, Vi Assing; and three grandchildren.
