Prep’s Free-Throw Streak Ends After 87 Straight
Brentwood Academy’s Michael Brooker missed a free throw Friday night, ending a consecutive streak that reached 87.
Brooker, who will attend North Carolina, hit his first two free throws before missing his third, all in the first quarter. He didn’t shoot another free throw all night but scored 35 points in Brentwood’s 67-59 win over Augusta Prep.
Brooker’s streak is second on the all-time high school list behind New Orleans’ Darryl Moreau, who made 126 straight in 1979.
“The first two didn’t feel that great coming out of my hands,” said Brooker. “I don’t know if it was that much of a surprise that the third one didn’t go.”
The NCAA men’s record of 74 was set by Mike Hall of Adams State in 1992.
Michael Williams holds the NBA record with 97 in a row in 1993.
