Nic Men Drop Out Of Rankings

North Idaho College’s stay in the NJCAA men’s basketball poll lasted one week. NIC, which lost to Dixie last Friday, dropped from the new rankings released on Tuesday.

NIC (20-3) had moved into the ratings at No. 15 last week. Dixie (20-3) replaced North Idaho at No. 15.

SWAC-leading Utah Valley (19-2) is No. 3.

NIC is home against Treasure Valley on Thursday and archrival College of Southern Idaho on Saturday.

No SWAC teams are among the women’s top 20.

Hoop shoot

District Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest winners were crowned last weekend.

The district winners advance to the state event, which will be held March 1-2 at Wallace. The state winners advance to regional and the regional winners advance to the national shootoff.

The district winners were: 8-9-yearold boy - Jeff McKinnon, John Mullan Elementary, Wallace; 8-9 girl - Nicole Reed, Priest River Elementary, Priest River; 10-11 boy - Thomas Stephens, Bryan Elementary, Coeur d’Alene; 10-11 girl - Stephanie Windedahl, Pinehurst Elementary, Kellogg; 12-13 boy - Bryan Klingaman, Betty Kiefer Elementary, Rathdrum; 12-13 girl - Tabatha Poulson, Kellogg Middle School, Kellogg.

Youth wrestling

The North Idaho Freestyle Mat Pack wrestling program will begin Feb. 14 in the Coeur d’Alene area.

The program is for youth age 5 to 14. Fees are $50, which includes $25 for a USA card. North Idaho College coach John Owen and his team will be instructing the youth.

The program will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 6:30.
