Padres Call Friar Back

The friar is back in town and he’s coming out swinging.

The Swinging Friar cartoon character, who represented the Padres from 1958 to 1984, will be reintroduced this season.

The Swinging Friar was introduced in 1958 when the

Padres were part of the Pacific Coast League. The name was adopted by the N.L. expansion team that started play in 1969.
