Blaze Destroys Bellingham Eatery

About 100 firefighters battled a blaze that gutted a downtown restaurant early Wednesday.

No injuries were reported in the fire at the Alpine Restaurant.

The blaze was reported about 2:30 a.m. It apparently started on the second floor of the building, but its cause was not immediately determined. Fire Chief Jay Gunsauls said arson was not suspected.

The building appeared to be a total loss. The restaurant had been closed for remodeling.
