Mead Shuts Down Gonzaga Prep

GSL girls

Stacy Clinesmith scored a game-high 18 points and fourth-ranked Mead’s defense caused Gonzaga Prep to shoot 15 percent from 2-point range in a 56-39 Greater Spokane League victory at Prep Friday night.

The Panthers (16-2, 13-1) never completely put away the Bullpups (10-8, 6-8), but were never seriously threatened after halftime.

Mead’s Holly Turner matched her career high with 17 points as the Panthers outscored Gonzaga Prep in every quarter.

The Bullpups were led by the 12 points of Kelle Kendrick. Kendrick made all three of her 3-point attempts, the only three the Bullpups attempted.

The Panthers’ inside defense held Prep’s 6-foot-1 posts Jennifer Williams and Theresa Palmer to 11 points on 4-for-23 shooting. It was only the second time at least one of them didn’t get into double figures in a game.

Mead plays No. 5 Central Valley at the Arena on Tuesday night at 5:30. If the Panthers win, they’ll capture the GSL title. A CV win would produce a three-way tie with Ferris.
