Ray Saves Her Best For Last In Ewu Win

Freshman Shana Ray’s basket with 9 seconds left carried Eastern Washington past Idaho State 65-63 in Big Sky Conference women’s basketball Friday night at Pocatello, Idaho.
The road win for Eastern (6-14 overall, 4-4 Big Sky) was its first in 10 attempts this season.
Ray made just 2 of 6 shots in the game. However, they couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.
Idaho State (7-13, 1-7) led 62-61 with 1:48 to play before Ray hit a layup to put Eastern up 63-62. The Bengals’ Meg Salmes made 1 of 2 free throws to tie it at 63 before Ray hit the final shot of the game.
Also for Eastern, Kristy Missall led all scorers with 19 points. Nicole King added 19 for EWU and Tina Smith scored 14.

Despite 22 points and 12 rebounds from Idaho’s senior center, Mindy Rice, the Broncos beat the visiting Vandals for the fifth-straight time.
The Vandals are 6-14 overall, 3-5 Big Sky. Boise State (7-13, 4-4) was led by Post Falls High grad Michelle Shultz, who scored 23 points.
