Post Falls Plans School Bond Rally

From Staff And Wire Reports

Post Falls school bond supporters are hoping for a big turnout at a campaign rally Tuesday.

“We’ll get a pretty good idea of what kind of support we have,” said Cort Wilcox, a board member of the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the campaign committee.

Although the chamber’s board of director’s fully endorsed the $15.8 million bond levy for a new high school, some business owners were slow to back the measure, Wilcox said.

Some people questioned how Architects West was chosen to design the school, he said. Opposition disappeared when people found out that a school district committee chose the company in 1994 after reviewing about a half-dozen proposals.

Architects West has donated $12,000 through the Post Falls Education Foundation for facility improvements, said Wilcox, who directs the foundation.

The proposed bond levy will be split into two parts on the March 26 ballot. In addition to the $15.8 million for a basic high school, voters will have the option to vote for an additional $1.95 million to build a 500-seat auditorium, a football stadium and multi-use track.

The campaign rally starts at 6 p.m. in the Post Falls High School cafeteria.
