Home Fire Blamed On Space Heater

From Staff And Wire Reports

Investigators blame a space heater used to thaw frozen pipes for sparking a fire that damaged a Spokane home Monday afternoon.

No one was in the house at 1839 W. Mallon when firefighters arrived about 3:40 p.m.

They were able to douse the fire but had to tear into walls to find the flames, said Rich Hansen, a Spokane Fire Department battalion chief.

The space heater, placed near the pipes in a crawl space, ignited some straw, Hansen said. Damage was estimated at $15,000. , DataTimes
