Laura Streit Spokane
Laura Amanda (Millsap) Streit is 100 years old today.
Born Feb. 16, 1896, in Dabney, Ark., she has been a Northwest resident for 94 years.
She married John P. Streit in 1912. He died in 1969.
Mrs. Streit designed and managed the U.S. Army Depot lunchroom during the early 1940s and was its head cook. She also cooked for the Central Valley School District’s hot lunch program from the late 1940s until her retirement in 1967.
She has three children: Margie Gross and John A. Streit, both of Spokane, and Martha Knauss, Cocolalla, Idaho.
Mrs. Streit has nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
When asked to what she attributes her longevity, she replied, “I love everybody.”
