Clarence Asbury Coeur d’Alene

Private family service for Clarence H. Asbury, 84, will be held later. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Asbury, who was born in Harrison, Idaho, died Monday.

He was a lifelong Kootenai County resident and past member of the AFL-CIO.

Mr. Asbury loved driving on back country roads to watch wildlife and enjoyed singing gospel music.

Survivors include one brother, Eugene Asbury of Hayden, Idaho; one sister, Frances Fehling of Coeur d’Alene; two nieces and four nephews.

Betty Yadon Spokane

Service for Betty J. Yadon, 74, is set for 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Yadon, who died Tuesday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

She served with the Navy WAVES during World War II and was a homemaker.

Her husband of 41 years, Elwyn Yadon, died in 1988.

She is survived by one son, David Yadon of Coeur d’Alene; her father, Wallace Gamble of Spokane; and two granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Betty Vawter Spokane

Service for Betty Jane Vawter, 74, is set for 3 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Vawter, who died Tuesday, was born in Chico, Calif.

A 70-year resident of Spokane, she had managed a clothing store.

She was a member of Ladies Oriental Shrine, Sons of Norway, Eagles Lodge No. 2 and the Moose Lodge.

She is survived by one son, Marty Roper of Federal Way, Wash.; one brother, James “Bud” McGhee, and one sister, Darlene Maggard, both of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Mildred Horner Spokane

Service for Mildred V. Horner, 89, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Entombment will be at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Born in Bismarck, N.D., Mrs. Horner died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane for 60 years and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Alvin Horner, died in 1966.

Mrs. Horner is survived by two daughters, Betty Fann of Spokane and Diane Brunner of Windsor, Colo.; one son, James Okert of Montgomery, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Timothy Valley Spokane

Memorial service for Timothy R. “Tim” Valley, 44, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Grace Baptist Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Valley, who died Monday, was born in Spokane.

He worked as a salesman at the Flour Mill.

He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Stingall of Spokane; and three brothers, Donald Solberg of Spokane, Michael Valley of Richland and Stephen Valley of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Swanheld ‘Swanie’ Tyler Liberty Lake

Memorial service for Swanheld Helena “Swanie” Tyler, 73, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Lake Community Church.

Mrs. Tyler died Feb. 3 in Honolulu, where she had been staying with her son for the past six months. She was born in Norway.

Mrs. Tyler, a 41-year Liberty Lake resident, was active in the Liberty Lake community and was involved with having the sewer system installed there.

Survivors include one son, Bill Schmidt of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; one daughter, Swanie Schmidt of Florida; and six grandchildren.

Gilbert Coffman Spokane

Visitation for Gilbert R. Coffman, 80, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Coffman, a 50-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday. He was born in Greencastle, Mo.

He served in the Army during World War II and worked as a crane operator at Kaiser Aluminum in Mead.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Steelworkers Union Local No. 329.

His wife of 46 years, Ruth Coffman, died in 1995.

Mr. Coffman is survived by one daughter, Shelley Holcomb of Spokane; and three grandsons.

William Gerraughty Spokane

Vigil service for William M. “Bill” Gerraughty, 85, will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Gerraughty, who died Monday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

He graduated from Gonzaga High School.

He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad before and following World War II, during which he served in the Navy.

Mr. Gerraughty later graduated from the University of Idaho and from Gonzaga University School of Law. He practiced law until 1994.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Cathedral, Phi Delta Theta, Washington State Bar Association and Knights of Columbus.

His wife, Betty, preceded him in death.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Karen McDonald of Issaquah, Wash., and Kristen Howell of Camano Island, Wash.; and one sister, Helen Reghitto of Patterson, Calif.

Edwin Ost Spokane

Visitation for for Edwin C. Ost, 69, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeNorth. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Ost, who died Tuesday, was born in Hebron, N.D.

He moved to Spokane in 1942 and worked for the Great Northern Railway. He worked for Pohl Springs as a machinist for 19 years before retiring in 1988 and had also worked in maintenance at the Spokane Gun Club.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Betty Ann Ost; three sons, Terry Ost of Union Gap, Wash., Ted Ost of Pendleton, Ore., and Christ Ost of Spokane; four sisters, Leona Gunderson of Spokane, Evelyn Cunningham of Deer Park, Mardella Montgomery of Custer, Wash., and Joanne Senter of Blaine, Wash.; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Clifford Taylor Spokane

Memorial service for Clifford E. Taylor, 63, is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Taylor, who died Monday, was born in Spokane.

He graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, in 1954 and was ordained as a minister of the Church of the Nazarene in 1982.

He lived in California and was involved with Christian broadcasting and television production in California. He became involved in evangelism ministry full time in 1974. He performed magic and ventriloquism on television.

He returned to Spokane 17 years ago.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians and the Interaction Brotherhood of Magicians.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Taylor; one son, Frank Taylor of Spokane; two daughters, Donna Ritchie of Redding, Calif., and Lisa Eacret of Spokane; his mother, Ione Taylor of Snohomish, Wash.; three sisters, Dorothy Gardener and Gerrie Eppes, both of Kenai, Alaska, and Betty Parker of Everett; and four grandchildren.
