Players Lead 6-1 In Arbitration
Players, headed for perhaps their best year in salary arbitration, increased their record to 6-1 and Mo Vaughn finally settled his case by agreeing to an $18.6 million, three-year contract.
Atlanta pitcher Steve Avery and Boston pitcher Mike Stanton won their cases, and Texas catcher Ivan Rodriguez became the first player to lose this year.
Vaughn had asked for $6.1 million, which would have been an arbitration record if he had won. But Boston agreed to a deal that will pay him $6.1 million in each of the next three seasons.
