Tired Of Your Brother? ‘Dump The Chump’

Matthew Weaver Rogers

Are you currently out of touch with your younger brother or sister? Are you upset when they start discussing things like Cameron Hodge Phalanx from X-Men, or the Hey Empire from The Tick, and you have no idea what they’re talking about?

Here’s a book to help you get back on track with them. “Operation: Dump the Chump” by Barbara Peck is a book that is always good, no matter how many times you read it.

Oscar is a boy who has always been tortured by his little brother, Robert, since Robert came home from the hospital. Robert has managed to ruin every single special day of Oscar’s, plus get them both banned from Sunday school.

The funniest disaster is when little Robert gets his hands on the first Christmas cards Oscar has been allowed to choose himself. Robert writes “poo-poo hed” on the line that says, “name here,” on every card, so they all now say “Merry Christmas, Poo-poo Hed” on them.

Oscar finally has enough of Robert and puts his mind to work on a plan to dump the chump. Figuring heavily into Oscar’s plan are his elderly neighbors, the Hensons. Mr. Henson is a nice old man whose only fault, as Oscar puts it, “is he has hair growing out of his ears.”

Oscar must convince his parents that the Hensons are getting on in years and need a boy to help them out. Who better than Robert?

Oscar must also convince the Hensons that his father lost his job at the bank and needs to get rid of the pig of the family to save money on food. The family piggo is Robert.

In the midst of all this, Robert pulls a stunt involving spiders that will leave you howling. In the end, Oscar’s plan goes a little haywire and results in a thrilling scene of dangerous proportions - Mom gets mad!!!
