Buchanan Win Hurts Dollar
The dollar ended mixed against major currencies Wednesday after being tugged by divergent political events.
The dollar was hurt by Pat Buchanan’s upset win in New Hampshire, which raised the specter of protectionist trade policies, and helped by Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan’s second day of congressional testimony.
By 4 p.m. in New York, the dollar was trading at 1.4499 marks, up from 1.4473 on Tuesday. It finished at 104.98 yen, compared with 105.75 on Tuesday.
