Connie Jo Squires Named School Psychologist Of Year

Connie Jo Squires, a school psychologist in the West Valley School District, has been named Washington State School Psychologist of the Year by a board of her peers representing 850 members.

Squires, in the education profession for 30 years, has worked in the Mead School District and the Spokane School District.

Her part-time private practice, Associates in Counseling, Consulting and Education, has been in operation for 13 years.

Michael McCliment, a student at Eastern Washington University, has been named in the “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

McCliment, a session intern to State Sen. John Moyer, has made the Dean’s List every quarter since enrolling at Eastern in 1994. He is majoring in urban and regional planning.

He is president of EWU’s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, and maintains a 3.85 GPA.

He graduated from Tonasket (Wash.) High School in 1971.

Dr. Philip Cleveland has been appointed clinical medical education coordinator-Spokane for the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Cleveland has been director of the Spokane Family Medicine Residency for 11 years. His new duties will include overseeing various clinical training programs for medical students, residents and practicing physicians in Spokane and Eastern Washington.

Three Inland Northwest students have been named candidates for the Presidential Scholars Program: Sam Bishop, a senior at Lewis and Clark High School, is the son of Rebecca Bishop, Spokane.

Robert Dirks, a Lewis and Clark senior, is the son of Mike and Suree Dirks. He is a class valedictorian, a National Merit Semi-Finalist and a Washington Scholar Nominee.

Sarah Westergren, a senior at Mead High School, is the daughter of Steve and Debbie Sheehan.

Marine Sgt. Todd A. Olmsted, son of Arthur A. Olmsted and Lenora D. Olmsted, both of Spokane, recently received a Meritorious Mast award.

Olmsted, cited for outstanding service while assigned at the Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Montgomery, Ala., received the award for superior individual performance.

A 1983 graduate of North Central High School, Olmsted joined the Marines in October 1983.
