Anniemarie Harris Spokane

Memorial service for Anniemarie Harris, a Warden, Wash., teacher, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Warden Elementary School gym. Inurnment will precede at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Harris, 49, died Jan. 29 of cancer.

She was born in Spokane.

Miss Harris was a second-grade teacher in Warden and had been teaching for 25 years.

She was a member of the Warden Women’s Civic Club.

She is survived by her companion, Syed Hasan of Spokane; one sister, Frances Burrell of Port Townsend, Wash.; and two brothers, Bernard Harris Jr. of Irving, Texas, and James Harris of Clearwater, Fla.

Ryan Cross Spokane

Memorial service for Ryan A. Cross, 21, will be at 4 p.m. today at the University of Montana Performing Arts Center in Missoula. Local memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. A gathering will follow from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the cafeteria at University High School in the Spokane Valley.

Mr. Cross, a distance runner for the University of Montana track team, has been missing since Feb. 10 and is presumed dead. He fell through ice covering a Missoula irrigation ditch that flows into the Clark Fork River.

He was born in Moscow, Idaho.

A 1993 graduate of University High School, Mr. Cross was attending the University of Montana on a track scholarship. He set school records in track at University and placed second in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the state track meet his senior year.

Survivors include his parents, Barry and Deborah Cross of Spokane; two brothers, Shannon and Travis Cross, and one sister, Robyn Cross, all of Spokane; his grandparents, Allan and Mike Oviatt of Spokane, and Nathalie Cross of Jefferson City, Mo.

Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund in Ryan’s name at University High School, 10212 E. Ninth, Spokane, WA 99206.

Nellie Terzieff Metaline Falls, Wash.

Rosary for Aniela Katherine (Niemiec) Terzieff, 86, is planned for 7:30 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Metaline Falls. Service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the church. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Terzieff, who died Sunday, was born in Poland.

She came to the United States when she was 16 and settled in New Jersey.

In 1927 she moved to Spokane, where her mother and sister were living. She married Jordan Terzieff later that year. He died in 1962.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Martin Terzieff of Port Townsend, Wash., and Robert Terzieff of Metaline Falls; and two grandchildren.

Sadie Wittkopf Spokane

Visitation for Sadie K. Wittkopf, 85, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Wittkopf, who died Monday, was born in Colbert.

A longtime resident of the Spokane area, Mrs. Wittkopf was raised in Green Bluff. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Arnold Wittkopf, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Ray Wittkopf of Spokane; two daughters, Maxine Arrants of Vancouver, Wash., and Donalee Rives of Abilene, Texas; four sisters, Ellen Lauck, Viola Hann, Grace Zeimantz and Margie Atwood, all of Spokane; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren.

Lillian Hoffman Ritzville, Wash.

Service for Lillian Amanda Hoffman, 78, is set for 2 p.m. today at Trinity Methodist Church in Ritzville. Vault burial will follow at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hoffman, a longtime Ritzville resident, died Monday. She was born in Seattle.

She married Irvin Baumann in Seattle in 1939 and they lived in Seattle for a short time before they moved to Ritzville. He died in 1949.

From 1950 until 1955 she worked at the Agriculture Extension Office. In 1955 she married Carl “Biff” Hoffman. He died in 1988.

In 1963 she began working as a secretary at the Ritzville Elementary School and retired in 1978.

She also volunteered at the Life Care Nursing Home and was the secretary of the Methodist Church. She was a member of Gritman Senior Center.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Baumann of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Tom Baumann of Seattle; two daughters, Margie Gordon of Renton, Wash., and Virginia Jones of Benge, Wash.; one sister, Agnes Kamp of Seattle; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Janet Kelley Spokane

Vigil service for Janet A. Kelley, 84, will be at 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Church, where she was a member. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at the church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kelley, who died Saturday, was born in Ione, Wash.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and the University of Idaho, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and was a travel agent.

She was a member of the Spokane Country Club, Spokane Club and Manito Golf and Country Club.

Mrs. Kelley is survived by her husband, William Kelley; one sister, Evalyn Evans of Spokane; six stepdaughters, Kitty Kelley of Washington, D.C., Mary Cary Coughlan of Chicago, Ellen Kelley of New York City, Margaret Jimenez of Los Altos, Calif., Adele O’Toole of Denver and Madeleine Watt of Tacoma; and one stepson, Bill Kelley of Pullman.

Gary McLaughlin Spokane

Memorial service for Gary J. McLaughlin, 41, will be at 8 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McLaughlin died Saturday of an asthma related attack.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from Rogers High School. He had worked at Burgan’s Furniture for 22 years.

He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Helen McLaughlin of Spokane; two brothers, Ronald McLaughlin of Oroville, Wash., and John McLaughlin of Spokane; and three sisters, Sue Phares, Lorrie McLaughlin and Kassie Torrance, all of Spokane.

Ricarda Gonzales Spokane

Funeral Mass for Ricarda D. Gonzales, 30, is set for 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Desmet, Idaho, where she was a member. Burial will follow at Desmet Mission Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Gonzales, who died Saturday, was born in Spokane.

She had lived in Spokane and Desmet and worked at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Bingo Hall near Worley, Idaho. She had also worked as a housekeeper, home child care provider and a seasonal firefighter near Plummer, Idaho.

Ms. Gonzales is survived by her mother, Patrecia Swan Gonzales of Spokane; her father and stepmother, Richard and Sherri Garry of Wellpinit, Wash.; one son, Ricco Gonzales of Tensed, Idaho; two brothers, Andrew Garry and Richie Garry Tonasket of Montana; three sisters, Cheryl Gonzales of Tensed, and Sunny Jo Garry and Missy Baranby, both of Wellpinit; her grandparents, Bertha Swan of Desmet, Loren Swan Sr. of Tekoa and Calvin Garry of Spokane.

Myrtle Allen Spokane

Funeral Mass for Myrtle Elizabeth Allen, 93, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Allen, who died Sunday, was born in Rockford.

She had lived in Spokane since 1923 and had worked as a bookkeeper.

She was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51 Auxiliary, Sacred Heart Altar Society and Dantis.

Her husband, Richard Allen, died in 1967.

Mrs. Allen is survived by one son; James Allen of Commerce Township, Mich.; one daughter, LeAnne Peterson of Mount Vernon, Wash.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Frankie SiJohn Coeur d’Alene

Rosary for Frankie Lee SiJohn, 25, will be today at 7 p.m. at the Tribal School in Desmet, Idaho. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Catholic Church in Desmet. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. SiJohn, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday from multiple stab wounds. He had lived in the Plummer/Worley area until moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1990.

Mr. SiJohn most recently was a maintenance worker for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe.

Survivors include a daughter, Keisha Stensgar of Plummer, Idaho; his father, William Matt Sr. of Spokane; his mother, Carole SiJohn of Coeur d’Alene; six brothers, Richard Curry of Coeur d’Alene, Bill Matt Jr. of Wellpinit, Wash., and John, Montana, Alex and Daniel Matt, all of Spokane.

Helen Nelson Spokane

Burial for Helen M. Nelson, 83, will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nelson, who died Sunday, was born in Cadott, Wis.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 40 years and worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center for 26 years as a pediatric nurse.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Edward Nelson, died in 1984.

She is survived by one sister, Doris Petersen of Lewiston.

Virgil Lemley Spokane

Service for Virgil O. Lemley, 84, is set for 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spangle Cemetery.

Mr. Lemley, who died Sunday, was born in Plaza, Wash.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and was a longtime Spokane resident.

He and his two brothers founded Lemley Tire Shop in Spokane and operated the business for 50 years.

He was a member of the Farwell Senior Center and Valley Bowl Senior Citizen Bowling League.

Mr. Lemley is survived by his wife Arthilyn “Art” Lemley; four sons, Steve, Kenn, Timothy and Russell Lemley; one stepdaughter, Jeannie Dolan; his twin brother, Carroll Lemley; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Madeline Nichols Spokane

Graveside service for Madeline A. Nichols, 88, will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nichols, who was born in Deer River, Minn., died Tuesday.

She settled in the Moscow, Idaho, area at a young age and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1946. She moved to Spokane in 1981 to be near her daughter.

Mrs. Nichols enjoyed fishing, gardening and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jim, in 1980.

Survivors include one son, Dave of Rathdrum, Idaho; two daughters, Rose Smythe of Spokane and Marjorie Hogeweide of Rathdrum; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Dillon Kilcup Spokane

Memorial service for Dillon K. Kilcup, 85, is set for 1 p.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will precede at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Kilcup, who died Monday, was born in Linden, Wash.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 65 years and was the retired owner of Kilkon Mfg. Co.

He was a member of Tyrian Masonic Lodge No. 96, Spokane Masonic Lodge No. 34, Scottish Rite Bodies, El Katif Shrine, the Royal Order of Scotland, Audubon Park Order of the Eastern Star No. 214, Ivanhoe Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 80 and the Brotherhood of Friends.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one son, Kermit Kilcup of Spokane; and two grandsons.

Leona Pounder Spokane

Service for Leona L. Pounder, 92, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Pounder, who died Monday, was born in Gresham, Ore.

She had lived in Spokane for 60 years.

Her husband, Cecil Pounder Sr., died in 1982.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Walker and June Teneff, both of Spokane; one son, Jim Pounder Jr. of Spokane; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Frances Kendall Hartline, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Frances A. Kendall, 83, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hartline, Wash. Burial will be at Hartline Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kendall, who was born in Hartline, died Monday. She married Joseph Kendall in 1929 in Colville, Wash., and they operated a wheat farm in Hartline. Her husband died in 1980.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Blind Spring Grange.

Survivors include two sons, Bernard Kendall of Hartline and DeWayne Kendall of Battleground, Wash.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Stanley Ellertsen Spokane

Service for Stanley E. Ellertsen, 85, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Ellertsen, who died Feb. 13, was born in Astoria, Ore.

He graduated from high school in Montana and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1940s on Grand Coulee Dam.

Mr. Ellertsen served with the Spokane County Fire Department for 26 years and retired as a captain.

He was a member of the Valley Eagles Lodge, and was known at Waitts Lake as the “Duck Man” because he fed the ducks at the lake.

His wife, Adeline, died in 1990.

Survivors include two sons, Richard of Molokai, Hawaii, and Donald of Gold Hill, Ore.; two daughters, Kay Ellertsen of Spokane and Vicki Tachell of Mead; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
